Not trying to start trouble or anything, but I'm just wondering if anybody thinks he's overrated besides me.
I'm a big UK fan, and Tubby is a great guy. But I don't see the good coaching that everyone else see's. I was on rivals.com on the UK board, but they won't let you post anything negative about UK.
After that MSU elite 8 game, I realized that Tubby could not be that good of a coach. You have to agree with me on this one, he had the game won a couple times in this game and let it slip away. That 1st overtime we were up by 4. Then after they tied it, we couldn't get a shot off with 25 seconds to go!! That's not the players fault, that's the coach that didn't set up the right play.
I know he gives us 25+ wins every year, but is not all to being a good coach!! You have to atleast get to the Final Four ever once in a while. And with the past teams he's had, With Bogans,Prince and Magloire. We had ALOT of talent on that team. Still lost 10+ a year. Their's gotta be something wrong with that.

NO, I don't agree with you on this. sounds like your saying he didn't call the right play because the kids didn't execute it. You can lay blame in a lot of different places in that game. Most people who are not UK fans lay the blame on Rondo and his inexperience at the point. I personally put the blame on a kid that missed the front end of a one and one that would have won the game in regulation but because he hit a three with time winding down that has been forgotten. Some put the blame on Az for not being agressive on the offensive end of the court and thus saying he is not ready for the NBA because of that. I have yet to hear a Kentucky fan say that Michigan State hit some big time threes and just did a good defensive job on us in the overtimes. These are just a few items to think about besides blaming the coach.

michigan state hit some timely 3's and played good defence in the overtime. it also doesn't hurt to have a team laden with seniors..

I do believe this conversation and debate has already happened.... several times... Check the Hot Tub forum. "A lightly moderated forum specifically for the great Tubby debates!"

Did anyone wonder why, with 12 seconds left, that rondo wasn't instructed to call another timeout with about 6 to 7 seconds left if the play wasn't working? But then, my gosh, we should never blame the Coach.

Honeslty, the same thing happened against UF in the O-Dome. We should have called a TO, Tubby admitted that.

You have to agree with me on this one, he had the game won a couple times in this game and let it slip away. Lute Olson is a Hall of Famer. Does he suck to for letting Illinois back in when they were by 15 with 4 minutes left. If so, find me 10 better coaches in the nation. Same thing with Tubby Smith. In a close game situation, you can take who you want, give me Tubby Smith. Look at his record. Furthermore, Izzo had the game won several times as well. What does that say about him, that he (or his team) let Tubby back in. I hate it that people complain about UK being a team program. Then, the blame falls on one person all the time... Tubby. UK lost this one. Not Tubby. Not Rondo. Not Sparks. Not Prince. Not Delk. Not Walker. UK. UK. UK. UK. UK. UK. UK!!!

Tubby isnt as good as some would have us believe, however, he isnt as bad as some think either. overrated at times, and underrated at others. He's a good coach, but a better man
