i think izzo would do a good job. the man knows how to recruit and his style of play fits. are there problems in spartan land?
if for some reason this is a big joke or some made up elaborate hoax. the university has just taken a huge blow recruiting wise.
why know to report this? it almost seems suicidal.

P-time, Are you referring to what George Plaster and company reported around 4:00 on 104.5? If so, I must not have gotten the same "vibe" as you.

The story that 104.5 "The Zone" out of Nashville was pure speculation on the part of George Plaster.......who would not state his sources. All he kept referring to was "my people in Lexington" are saying........
Now, I like what he was reporting, but I wouldn't go as far as totally depending on it yet. If you want the direct quotes for the show, I did manage to jot the important ones down.

I wouldnt totally doubt us out for the final four. Because you know how Tubby some how gets his players players ready for the sec tournament and ncaa'. Our "horrible" team last year almost beat the almighty uconn. And another thing if he cant recruit how did he get joe crawford, randy, rondo, and bradley back in 03'. oh yeah the best recruiting class in the country. then youll say he can recruit if he picks up lucas and patterson. oh yes Tubby can recruit.

If you really want to keep Coach Smith here at UK, then you better start your petition pronto. IMHO,things are gonna start rolling really quick.

The "Almighty Uconn" was beaten by George Mason in the Elite 8 #2 If Tubby gets the teams ready for the tournament, why hasn't UK won the SEC tournament in 3 seasons, and we won't win it this year either #3 The recruiting class of Crawford, Rondo, Morris, and Bradley was in 2004, not 2003. In 2003 we got the wonderful class of Bobby Perry, Sheray Thomas, Lukasz Obrzut, and Shagari Alleyne. #4 You can not tell me that the 2004 class has not been a disappointment. #5 In thte 2004 class we passed up Corey Brewer and Chris Lofton. # 6 When we do get a good recruiting class, Tubby screws them up. Crawford wanted to transfer, Rondo hated his offense, Morris tried to leave, and Bradley didn't want to come home from New York. This year's freshman are being messed up by him too. Jasper won't shoot (but that is his own fault) Meeks has to play behind Crawford, Stevenson has to play behind Thomas and Bobby, and Porter just flat doesn't play. #7 If he can recruit, does he just choose not too when we lose out on virtually every big name player? And the 2002, 2003, and 2005 recruiting classes were just rare occasions of bad recruiting? Or, more likely, was the 2004 class a rare occasion of good recruiting? I'm gonna go with the last one.

Izzo can stay up north for all I care. This would be a unilateral move IMO.......and not a good one at that.

I am totally shocked to come here. I heard about it at work today. I heard about it on the SEC boards. I come here, HERE, of all places, and NO ONE has heard? Tubby's out. Word from inside the athletic department is his contract is going to be bought out. On Nashville radio, it was being reported that he is all but gone, and that apparently, Tom Izzo is a leading candidate. I'm not certain how much credence we can lend to Izzo, but there it is Big Blue fans. I already know, many won't believe til it's officially announced or whatever, but its happening. IF true: and I don't want Izzo, his style is as boring as Tubby's. I too do not want Izzo. I want someone who will put some points on the board.

Word from inside the athletic department to me was that it IS happening. What you heard on the radio was their way of saying that short of another title, they're going ahead w/it. I'm sorry, but I believe this is nonsense. If the athletic department is telling you this, let's have something besides an "anonymous source". No offense, PT, but this is a rumor that has been repeated for the last couple of years. Even if boosters approach Smith with a buy out offer, it is far from certain he would accept it. There isn't a buy out clause in his contract, as far as I know, so it can't be exercised as an option. I'll concede that it could happen in theory, but as a practical matter, I doubt it very much. Some radio guy in Nashville speculated about this, and a bunch of people have let wishful thinking overcome their good sense.

Certainly there are many rumors circulating the internet, and airwaves this morning, but I think that Tubby Smith the man deserves some respect, and some consideration this morning. None of us would want to be in his shoes right now looking at it from a public opinion perspective. Tubby has continually shown himself to be a man of integrity, and class and deserves to be treated accordingly. It may be time for a change, but IT'S NEVER A TIME FOR UK FANS TO BE DISRESPECTFUL, OR SHOW A LACK OF CLASS!
As UK fans that expect a top tier, class A program; we should expect also to be held to those same standards.
If Tubby leaves then let us all treat him with dignity. He may not have done the job we'd have hoped for, but he may very well have done all he knew to do.
