I know I wanted Tubby gone. Now he is. SO....
Who ever the new coach is ALL UK FANS have to support him for at least the next couple of years.
Tubby has left this program a lot worst than how he recieved it. So I know ALL THE FANS will be behind the new coach no matter what for a while. Give the new coach a chance to clean it up and get in the recruits he needs.

It would have gotten to me before now. 10 years is a long time to spend at UK, and I think he made a good decision for himself, his family, and our university. We won't have to hear accusations of racism, or other idiotic nonsense from the media, because Smith has seen fit to spare us all that in spite of some ridiculous vitriol sent his way. The program is in better shape than Smith took it over. Did Pitio build the $30m practice facility? No. Smith won a national championship and had several #1 ranked teams. There is no way to know if Pitino's success would have continued, and given his performance at Louisville, it arguably wouldn't have. So let's dispense with this nonsense right now. I agree we should support our new coach, whoever it is. But posts casting stones at Smith will not be received favorably. He is gone. Bury the "dead", they stink up the place.

B2B, Now you had to expect this. Play the pallidin all you want, but this is the biggest thing to hit UK in ten years; pro-Smith or anti-Smith.
I can't see how tcot's post was attacking or demeaning enough to warrant comment. How is the Men's Basketball Program better off today? Do you really credit the new facility to Coach Smith?
So, I suppose that we should bury comments about our former coaches after they're gone? Seems as though many people still want to comment about Coach Pitino on a weekly basis.....or is that different because it comes from a different circle of opinion?

I agree that the new coach, whomever it may be, needs and deserves ALL the fans support for his first 2-3 seasons, then we can see his results with his players/style and "critique" then if there is cause to.... -D

I'll just move it to the Hot Tub, and you guys can whack away at his record.

You are joking right? (rhetorical) The program is in better shape now after two early flameouts and no conference tournament championship? Four in a row to Vandy, and six in a row to Florida, and the program is in better shape than having just appeared in two national championship games? As for the practice facility; Smith didn't build that the boosters did.
Smith's championship was 10 years ago when the program was in excellent shape. It's no where near that now. That championship was residual. Smith did a good job coaching that team, but with few exceptions has struggled since then. Even his years ending with a number 1 seed failed short of number 1 seed quality.

I'll add on to what BC said. Guess what, the fans don't care about the practice facility if it doesn't help you win. I wouldn't care if they practiced with a peach basket like they did over 100 years ago. As long as you win games the program is in good shape. The year Pitino left, we had been to the final four in 3 of the last 5 seasons. The year Tubby left, we have been to 0 final fours in 9 seasons. And we are in better shape?

That championship was residual. Smith did a good job coaching that team, but with few exceptions has struggled since then. Even his years ending with a number 1 seed failed short of number 1 seed quality. The program is not the current team. The program is fan support, facilities, and success over the years. Kentucky has had all that under Smith. He had several great tournament runs that perhaps ended early, but he also accomplished the longest winning streak in the nation, an undefeated SEC season, several #1 ranked teams, and presided over the continued growth of a clean, first-class program. Fan support is just as strong as it was when Pitino was here, the facilities are now better, and any alumni support that had fled because they didn't like Smith will immediately return now that he is gone. Smith also had his deficiencies, but he did good work in the face of criticism that literally began the day he stepped foot on campus. He showed he was a high quality coach, and a winner. Due to the position a coaching change puts us in, we may suffer one more down year before we return to what we were in 1998, 2003, 2004 and 2005, but we have a nice returning nucleus and we may be stronger than people imagine. The excitement of getting a new coach after 10 years will help. I am excited about the future because I know that what Smith helped build will serve as a foundation for future success. He joins Rupp, Hall, and Pitino as coaches who have increased the value of our basketball legacy, despite his recent underachivement.

Give the new coach a chance to clean it up and get in the recruits he needs. I will decide who I support and who I will not support. It is possible for UK to hire someone who I have no respect for and if they do, they should not expect me to support him. If they hire another Eddie Sutton, I will boo him when I am at the games and when I am watching on TV. That is my right as a fan and I have heard it said enough times on these internet boards that I have come to believe it. Those of you who have opposed OTS should not expect everyone else to jump on your celebratory band wagon. You have not won anything and you have not done anything to be proud of. The Gophers are getting a darn good coach and he will do well there. The Big 10 is not really that hard of a conference to win in and the SEC is a tough mother. UK's next coach may be a step down from OTS. Your celebration may not last, we will have to wait and see who the next man is.
