I agree he didn't take shots at the fans, but he also didn't take any responsibility for the fact that he left a program in much worse shape than what he inherited. He also basically denied anything to do with the fact that he was likely going to get fired soon if he didnt straighten up the program. Also I find it very ironic that he needed a challenge, because it appeared to be a big enough challenge for him at UK to simply compete on a national level the last few years. As someone said on another board, it was the same junk we have been hearing for a decade from him - no substance whatsoever. what did you want from the guy...for him to stand at the top of the world and proclaim that he made some bad recruiting mistakes and the program isn't what it used to be? If the President doesn't have to admit his mistakes, why the hell should Tubby Smith?

Yea I do think he should take some blame for his recruiting mistakes, etc...........rather than sitting there acting like he's the best thing since sliced bread and left the program on his own free will (which we all know is complete horsesh#$*)

Tubby IS NOT THAT GREAT OF A COACH, GREAT MAN THOUGH. At Tulsa (4 years) won with someone else's players, at Georgia (2 years) won with someone else's players, oh and kentucky (10 Years) well if you don't know the story........ like being on this WEBSITE longer than me makes you anymore of a fan or more right on the subject than me all im saying is that its funny that everyone just wanted Tubby gone, well hes gone so why talk crap about him, he did what you obviously wanted so why does Tubby owe your type of fan anything. i wish Tubby the best an all i can say is i hope we can move on and find a good coach im not trying to start a war here theres no point...i understand and respect your opinion but bashing Tubby does nothing for anyone now Tubby is gone but all im saying is that just stop with the Tubby bashing its over ...if anything can come from this its that Tubby did do one thing by leaving that i dont think anyone can deny and thats reunite a fanbase thats been seperated for a long time so all i can hope is that we can move on and find a a good coach Since the average tenure for a BB coach is less than 8 years, wouldn't that mean that half the games are won with someone else's recruits. Saying that he won with someone else's recruits is kind of DUMB. Like saying Roy Williams won at UNC with someone else's players. Yeah, DUMB is the correct word.

He didn't take responsibility for that because it isn't true. He wasn't likely to get fired soon, and I'm quite sure he though he could straighten out UK's problems. I think it is less about him and more about your expectations, which are apparently dripping with a kind of delusional naivete. I know a certain segment of UK fans wish Smith would come on some radio program and admit that he screwed up badly at UK and apologize for his malfeasance. If that's what you were expecting, get used to disappointment - he doesn't believe that, nor should he.

In a way, he took responsibility by quietly leaving.
