I get so frustrated when I hear about so many kids making mistakes off the court and failing to handle their responsibilities academically. It's important to prepare yourself properly for the biggest game, the game of life. Yet too many student-athletes mix up the priorities. These days, when I pick up the sports section, it seems there's always another name of an athlete who has made a mistake -- someone who hasn't taken the responsibility of listening to the right people or acting like a man. Recently, Kentucky guard Cliff Hawkins learned that he will be ineligible for the first semester of 2002-03 because he didn't fulfill his academic responsibility. But he still can regain his eligibility for the second semester. Hopefully he will listen to the coaches and others involved in the Kentucky athletic and academic programs and be ready to go come January.
