Former Kentucky guard and McDonald's All-American Rashaad Carruth checked into Oklahoma on Tuesday, registered for summer school and made his way to the newly expanded Loyd Noble Center practice courts to see if the Sooners were really as tough as their national rep. The report from the players to the Sooners' staff: Carruth got pushed around a bit. But, getting humbled during a little "rat ball'' is a good sign -- at least in Norman. There were no fights, just some good old fashion Sooner ball. The kind of physical play that saw Arizona forward Luke Walton get shoved out of the lane and out of bounds by an elbow from much shorter Quannas White during OU's Sweet 16 victory in March. The kind of rugged, swarming defense that led Oklahoma all the way to Atlanta and the Final Four. The type of basketball Kelvin Sampson preaches and Carruth will certainly learn to play with a passion over the next few years. "He had a hard time with discipline (at Kentucky). I sat him down and had some serious talks about this not being the easiest system,'' Sampson said about his decsion to accept Carruth's transfer request after a troublesome season at UK. "I'm not interested in his opinion on it, he's just got to go out and play. He's willing to buy into it. He's not a bad kid. He's made poor decisions."

Hopefully Rashaad has learned his lesson.

If Carruth thought it was going to be easy with Coach Sampson, he knows better now! Maybe this will make him a better person and Player.

Lets hope Carruth learns that regardless of where he is, he DOES have to be a part of a TEAM. Sampson might be very good for him indeed!
And Bigbluefan--Great to see you here my friend! Look forward to you posting often!

I will be posting quite often, trust me! Let the record show that at this time.....I'm leading in post counts. I only say this because once BBF gets on a roll, I'll never be able to say that again. ;D ;D ;D

Ditto with Tummygoat. I hope Carruth the best, but him and tough nosed defense are not one of the same. Him and team play are not one of the same, the Western game as the example of Carruth not growing up to the college level yet. Isn't that the game where he would not take a shot? If I remember right (from other posts) he had about the same average minutes per game as a freshman as several former Kentucky players who are in the pros now.

It was actually the Kentucky St game he refused to shoot in. In any case it was one of his first few games he played in.

Thats right, Kentucky State. Thanks. It would be interesting to go to a Oklahoma board and read what the fans have to say about him. I look at it as a trade, Carruth for Aziboki#%^( (Ozzy Bookie) I'll take that trade.
