Big Blue Thoughts With Mitch Barnhart
Your response to Coach Mickie DeMoss’ women’s basketball team has been remarkable.
Midway through the season, Kentucky has the nation’s largest jump in average attendance. UK Hoops is averaging 4,990 fans per game, nearly three times the average attendance of 1,694 last season.
Our total attendance of 39,921 already is the third-largest figure in school history. We need 1,080 fans at this Sunday’s home game vs. LSU to surpass the second-highest total in school history (41,000 in 1981-82). The school record for total attendance is 61,975 in the 1982-83 season. With six home games remaining, we have a good chance to break that record.
On the court, the Wildcats have hustled their way to an 8-7 record and are growing in their learning of the effort and intensity that Coach DeMoss is teaching.

I think she is really going to turn this program around. In another 3-4 year, I think the recruiting class she has coming in next year will not only break through in the top 10, But you heard it here first, , the Top 5 ! Why stop there, they could win it all ! Slow down, I know. I am just really happy for the girls program, they have suffered a long time ! I really hope Demoss and the Ladycats do Great !

This program will have a winning record and be ranked, I am gonna venture to say tentatively next season, but for sure in two seasons.

I agree Chris, next season the Lady Cats will break in the top 25, and there will be a noticeable improvement. I think the Sweet 16 is a reasonable goal for the Lady Cats next season.
Coach DeMoss has done a terrific job with this program, and things will only get better. We've found the right person to resurrect our women's hoops program.
