After Kentucky played host to 12th-ranked Georgia before a crowd of more than 6,000 on January 12, UK ranked No. 1 nationally in increased attendance from last season (3,926 more than the 2002-03 average), ranked No. 2 (behind perennial power Tennessee) in Southeastern Conference attendance, and was 15th nationally (4,990) in attendance average. Season ticket sales reached nearly 3,000 after totaling only 140 a year ago. The current Cats easily moved into second place on the all-time single-season attendance total when 6,853 fans witnessed UK vs. No. 17 LSU on Sunday, January 18. UK drew 41,000 fans in 19 home games during the 1981-82 season, and the current Cats have now brought in 55,203 fans in just 10 home games. If the crowds continue to show up at their current pace, DeMoss’ squad will break UK’s single-season attendance record of 61,975 set in 1982-83. “People are buying season tickets because they want to have them when Kentucky becomes a national power,” says Lea Wise, a Lexington native who starred for UK from 1979-83 and is one of the most popular players in the program’s history. “There are guys here in Mt. Sterling (30 minutes from Lexington) who have bought season tickets and catch every game. It’s amazing. And I personally love it that Coach DeMoss is recruiting Kentucky kids. That in itself will resurge the program.” www.ukathletics.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=46&url_article_id=12172&url_subchannel_id=&change_well_id=2

DeMoss and company are doing a WONDERFUL job in this initial season and just you all wait til next year. Sure hope you are right Spam. I've been waiting for this for a loooong time. My daughter is twelve and really getting into basketball. She likes to watch the ladies play, but I hate that she doesn't get to watch UK win very much. www.iconbazaar.com/animals/mammals/carnivores/cats/bobcat1_1a.gif [/img] jd_ram@comcast.net

BC, high school players like to go to places that usually don't win. There's a lure there that you can be the first player to turn the program around.

That's right Spam. Both of our basketball programs have great recruiting classes. I think DeMoss' class is #8, and Tubby's is sure to be top 5(if not #1). Go UK Basketball Coaches!! You make us proud.
