The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team (11-16, 3-11) received the No. 11 seed and will face No. 6 seed and 24th-ranked Vanderbilt (20-7, 8-6 SEC) in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament on Thursday, March 4 in Nashville, Tenn., at the Gaylord Entertainment Center. Game time is slated for 8:30 p.m. CT/9:30 p.m. ET and will be televised live on Fox Sports Net South (SEC-TV). Kentucky's only meeting of the regular season against the Commodores proved to be a close one despite the Cats’ early foul trouble. In the conference opener for both teams on Jan 8, then-ranked No. 22 Vanderbilt hit 25-of-27 free throws, compared to UK’s 11-of-12, to defeat the Cats in Nashville, 65-57. UK is 12-20 all-time vs. Vanderbilt, 1-2 in the SEC Tournament. UK’s last meeting vs. the Commodores in the SEC Tournament was 10 years ago, an 83-80 loss in 1994. The winner will meet No. 3 seed Auburn on Friday, March 5 in the second round at 8:30 p.m. CT/9:30 p.m. ET. www.ukathletics.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=46&url_article_id=12506&url_subchannel_id=&change_well_id=2

Vandy has always been pretty tough, so this could very well be our last game. However, I'm so impressed with the turnaround that DeMoss has made in her first season. 11-16, you can already see the improvement. UK Women's hoops will be a force to be reckoned with for a long time.

Considering that the Cats had two players out due to extended illnesses, the remainder of the team has done very well this year. They have shown a lot of pride for hanging tough. If only Pfieffer had been healthy (a major scoring threat) it would free up Potts. And with Potts and Pfieffer healthy, SeSe would have had a lot more room to operate. But win or lose, I'm still proud to be BLUE and proud of them.

The girls have played better than I thought they would this season. I didn't really think we'd see too much change in Mickey's first year. Definate positive in my book.
