During her short Kentucky career, guard Jenny Pfeiffer battled a broken hand, shooting slumps, coaching changes and finally mononucleosis. The junior spent this summer battling with herself and the decision to give up basketball. For the first season since elementary school, Pfeiffer will not be wearing a basketball uniform, Kentucky Coach Mickie DeMoss said yesterday. The second-year coach said that Pfeiffer, who would have returned as the team's second-leading scorer, has decided to stop playing. "She told me she was burnt out," DeMoss said. "She said she doesn't have the same passion and desire to play basketball." Pfeiffer, a 5-foot-8 shooting guard, has not decided if she will transfer to another school or remain at UK, DeMoss said. Pfeiffer could not be reached for comment at her North Vernon, Ind., home last night. In a statement released by UK, Pfeiffer said: "I felt it was time to take my life in another direction. ... I love the University of Kentucky, the city of Lexington, and its many friendly people. I wish the women's basketball program the very best." www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/sports/womens/9399059.htm
