University of Kentucky sophomore Angela Phillips has left the women’s basketball program due to personal reasons, the point guard announced Friday. “I’ve decided to leave the University of Kentucky because of personal reasons,” Phillips said. “I appreciate everything Coach DeMoss and the University have done for me. I’m really going to miss everyone and it has been a really great experience for me. I just feel I need to make a change.” Phillips, a 5-5 point guard from Oak Ridge, Tenn., started 54 consecutive games in her two-year career, including all 34 games during the 2004-05 season. She averaged 4.6 points and 28.6 minutes per game as a sophomore and led the team in assists both seasons. www.ukathletics.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=46&url_article_id=15584&url_subchannel_id=&change_well_id=2

I saw that this morning in the paper...kind of a bummer. But I can and do understand her decision. I am pretty much convinced that it is simply a matter of Angela seeing all of the talent coming in and she probably sees the writing on the wall as far as diminished playing time. I, for one, will miss her. I thought she was a great team leader...very vocal in keeping her teammates fired up and focused. I think Angela had some difficulties in the SEC just in the fact that she is only 5'5" and she was often having to defend and be defended by much bigger and very quick players and it could be very frustrating. Again, it is a shame to see her go, but I wish her well and thank her for being there for UK these past couple of seasons.

I'm sure she will be very happy at ISU where she can be the big fish again. I live about 45 miles from her new campus and am going to try and chat with her about things.

Does anybody know why Angela really left the team?

I think I may have heard speculation that it was because she was really small for a point guard (maybe 5'3), and she we already had at least one PG recruit that might play over her. We brought in two PGs this year and both were Ms. Basketball of their respective state, one of which was Ormerod. I'm not sure how true any of this is, but I think that may be the speculation.

I've heard for certain personal reasons that I will not mention here because you can only beleive about zip of what you hear and only half of what you see.

I've heard for certain personal reasons that I will not mention here because you can only beleive about zip of what you hear and only half of what you see. I am now confused. Did you mean to just confuse me or what? Now was it personal reasons, or things you can not mention because of zip, or because it is only half of what you see? Please believe me, I have been there before, and still don't know where I got to where I am at now after all of that .

I use to post a board where Sarah Elliot's father was also a member. He would always give good info on the program. But, I left that board before Phillips transferred.
Simpyl put, I think the quality of players that DeMoss is recruiting played the biggest role in her leaving.
