Cats Move to 5-0 with Win Over FIUJunior guard Jenny Pfeiffer (N. Vernon, Ind.) scored a team-high 14 points and Nastassia Alcius (Lexington, Ky.) added 12 points and a career-high five steals as the Kentucky women’s basketball team used an impressive second-half rally to hold off Florida International, 71-56, Thursday in Memorial Coliseum. With the victory, the Cats improve to 5-0 for the first time since the 1998-99 season. Pfeiffer was one of four UK players in double figures. Senior forward/center Jennifer Humphrey (Memphis) also tallied 12 points, while sophomore center Sarah Elliott (McKee, Ky.) followed with 10. Elliott posted a season-high three blocks, marking the ninth time in her career that she has recorded three or more blocks in a game. Humphrey brought down a team-high seven rebounds. “I told the players, ‘we grinded it out.’ I didn’t think it was very pretty at times, but we buckled down and did the things we had to do to win the game,” UK Coach Mickie DeMoss said. “I thought our bench came in and gave us some valuable minutes, particularly on the perimeter. We found a way to beat a good team.” www.ukathletics.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=46&url_article_id=16779&url_subchannel_id=&change_well_id=2

Sam Mahoney is my favorite player, then Chante Bowman. Mahoney is our female Patrick Sparks in that she can play both the 1 or the 2. But, she was forced to play more 1 last year, as we didn't have many PGs after Phillips transferred. Chante Bowman reminds me of a Chuck Hayes type that gets the job done. She was recruited here as a 2 or 3, but she even played some 4 last year--and started 7 games while doing it out of position. Just does whatever needs to be done to win. I like this team. We are better than where the SEC coaches ranked us in the pre-seaon, we could be 5th best this year after the traditionally-dominant 4 of UT, LSU, UGA, and Vandy. Mahoney should be All-Conference at least second team.

That 30 point loss to LSU stings!! Stings quite a bit but I think our "Hoops" program will learn from this and take it to the opposition.

Not only that, but Shanna Zolman is playing like a first All-American with 17 ppg. UT just lost it's starting pointguard, and they follow that up with a 60 point win. It's just ridiculous. But, they Cats also just beat TSU by 60. Pat Summitt should get an 18th final four this year, but the national title won't elude her this year. Alexis Hornbuckle, Fluker, Spencer, and company are just stars that would normally be the first option on another team. Parker's 15 points and 9 boards are huge for a freshmen. She could do what Chamique Holdsclaw did for UT and win the national title 3 times. Even 4 times. If the women could go straight to the WNBA, Parker would be gone. But, instead, she'll spend four years perhaps dominating the college game.
She reminds me of Kevin Garnett in the way that she can play every single position. Her post moves are moves that players in the WNBA can't even hit except for Lisa Leslie. If the WNBA has a chance of surviving, this is the players (the LeBron of the women's game) that they need to market around.
