Kentucky women’s basketball forward/center Eleia Roddy has a torn ligament in her knee and will miss the remainder of the season. Team officials confirmed that a magnetic resonance imaging test (MRI) on Roddy's right knee revealed Oct. 18 that she had a tear of her anterior cruciate ligament. She tore the ligament during a routine drill in practice Tuesday, Oct. 17. Roddy will have surgery in a few weeks and will return for the 2007-08 season. www.ukathletics.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=46&url_article_id=18646&change_well_id=2

Bummer. That one hurts. Glad she will be back next year, though.

She was part of that acclaimed class with Buley, Mahoney, Elliot, and Bowman. Roddy did so much for us, playing multiple position, even some center at 6'3. This is a tough loss for Mickie, and it puts the onus on people like Jenne Jackson to step up and fill in the void now. I hope this doesn't hurt the chemistry of the team.

I don't think the chemistry of the team will be adversely affected, though some of the flexibility in DeMoss's substitutions will be altered. This team is still riding a very high wave after last year's wonderful season and I think they will be even better even though Roddy is out. I can see other teammates working that much harder with her on the bench, whether it be to compensate for her absence or just to lift her spirits.
I wish Roddy a speedy recovery and look forward to her return next season.
