After winning their previous seven games by an average of 35 points, Kentucky's players said they were ready to face some stiffer competition. They got what they wished for and more last night in their Southeastern Conference opener against South Carolina at Memorial Coliseum. It wasn't a blowout as in previous games, but the 59-55 victory was enough to help the Cats win their eighth straight heading into Saturday's game at No. 7 Ohio State. The Kentucky win snapped South Carolina's five-game win streak and had Coach Susan Walvius singing the Cats' praises. "We knew if we came in here and won this game, we'd be stealing one," Walvius said. "They're a top-20 basketball team. They have great size. They've got shooters. They've got kids who attack the rim. They have all the ingredients that great teams have." www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/sports/womens/16388029.htm
