After opening up its season with a sweep of the 23rd annual Coca-Cola Classic in Mobile, Ala., the Kentucky baseball team climbed up to No. 17 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper top-25 poll, released on Monday. Kentucky (3-0) opened up its season in impressive fashion, piling up 33 runs in three games and allowing just seven runs (1.80 ERA) from the opposition, behind consistent and at times dominant pitching performances from each of its weekend starters. Equally impressive, UK struck out 25 batters and walked only one, that coming from freshman lefty Mike Kaczmarek, who walked the first batter he faced in his collegiate career before ending the inning without any further damage.
