The tuna ordeal happened way before this board was formed.....hence the absence of that thread. There are some TV series on that show how animals are mistreated and how the owners are taken to court. Some of the animals are dogs, but many other species are included, like snakes, horses, exotic cats, and the like. I suppose they pick the ones that they believe will get the highest ratings, but nonetheless, the shows are not limited to dogs and cats. Are these true events? Many claim to be, but who would know.

I do see r4r's point, in a way. I hate PETA people, I really do. They jump up and scream about the treatment of animals, but don't seem to care at all that there are people here in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world that are literally starving to death, being killed in the name of religion or held and tortured without any concern of their human rights. There are bigger issues that Thumper having mascara put on him.
Still, Vick has been training creatures to go and kill other creatures while killing the underachievers. On a base level, that's wrong. True, if he wasn't famous, this wouldn't be on the news, but he is, so it is what it is. This is America and as a whole, the country is eye ball deep in celebrity worship.
If it's really in his heart to train creatures to kill other creatures, he should've passed on the NFL and joined the military (it's OK there) .....which didn't happen because as we all know, Vick can't pass very well.

I havent posted on htis board in years, but r4r has a point. Vick killed dogs, hunters kill lots of animals for sport and hang their heads up on the wall as trophies. People say its ok to hunt animals (innocent animals mind you), yet the fate of these animals is the same as the fate of Vick's dogs. THEY ARE DEAD. I don't care how they are dead, or why. The point is they are dead. We have slaughterhouses all around this country and videos of these show that they are cruel and inhumane. But nobody, other than PETA makes a fuss about it. But in this case, since these are dogs, and everyone has a dog that is so cute and cuddly, as tayshaun pointed out, the general public wants to lynch VIck and say SCREW HIM!!! like popeye so eloquently wrote in the post before mine.

And about breeding dogs to have them fight and ultimately be killed. Tell me how that is different then breeding chickens to be killed, or breed pigs to be killed. Is it different because they were electrocuted? I forgot that the US governemtn used the electric chair as a form of capital punishment ON HUMANS. Ultimately, there are plenty of animals that are bred to be killed. But since so many Americans have dogs as pets, and don't have chickens and pigs as pets, this is a bigger deal. The judge in this case has already stated he is a dog lover. So many people are "dog lovers" but I don't think dogs should be treated different than all the other animals that are abused inhumanely daily, just because they are cute and cuddly.

Also, people have been allowed to not choose the death penalty for a long time.

You are not addressing the moral issue. Obviously its illegal or there is absoultely no debate. Are pigs and chickens not worthy of living and dogs are becuase you have one and its cute? Why is it legal to kill pigs and chickens, becuase they taste good? What makes dogs so much better than all these other animals that are senselessly being killed? That is all that i am asking. Im not saying Mike Vick is a saint. Killing anything is wrong. But you are up in arms becuase he killed dogs. I think its just as wrong to kill all these animals because they taste good. And no, I don't eat meat.

The sole purpose for pigs and chickens is food. We do not need them for anything else. Dogs can be taught tasks. Police dogs, search and rescue dogs, dogs for blind people, therapy dogs, herding dogs, and tracking dogs. I have never heard of a police pig or police chicken.

Also, it is painfully clear that you do not own a dog.

In essence you are saying that pigs and chickens are worthless animals, and we don't "need" them. So who cares if we kill them. In that case, there are plenty of worthless human beings, drug addicts and whatnot, that provide no good to society. Lets go ahead and slaughter all of them.
You aren't getting the point. Because dogs have a good sense of smell they deserve to live more than a pig, or a chicken, or a deer in the wild?

No, I don't currently own a dog. And I'm not even saying its ok to kill dogs, I'm sayihng that its not OK to kill any animals, but its done every day and nobody cares. But when its a dog, everybody in the world has an opinion. If you're gonna be this up in arms about the killing of dogs, but you defend the killling of other "inferior" animals, then you are a hypocrite.
