At 33, Darius Washington Sr. is young enough to know the lyrics to the rap song his son works out to. And at 16, with his dad watching his back as a mentor and a best friend, Darius Washington Jr. knows what it takes to be No. 1. A month after Cypress Creek graduate Amare Stoudemire was the center of attention and the first high school player taken in the NBA draft, Edgewater junior-to-be Darius Washington is putting on his own show on the sneaker circuit. Washington is a 6-foot, 175-pound guard whose on-court skills conjure visions of similarly sized Allen Iverson burying jumpers off screens and making daring dribble-drives into the land of NBA giants. Colleges already in the chase include Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Memphis, UCLA and Auburn.

"Washington made a strong case to be called the top point guard in the class at ABCD, and he followed up with supporting arguments at Peach Jam. Washington is athletic, an exceptional ball handler, a good passer, but above all else, he's a scorer, from any range. He hasn't let any of his increased attention go to his head, though, as he told us he viewed the victories against Telfair at ABCD just like any other game. Washington is another great kid from the Tallahassee Wildcats, and he gave us a list of Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arizona, Louisville, and Memphis, and, it's safe to assume, countless others are on his trail as well." - Jeff Markman

"Following his stellar performance at ABCD, Washington continued to make the gurus think: is he better than Sebastian? After seeing both of them, I must say he is pretty close. Washington is one of the most prolific scorers I've ever seen. He can score from anywhere on the court, at any time, on anyone. Add to that his incredible athleticism, and ball-handling abilities and you just might have the top guard in the Class of 2004." - Sherrell McMillan

A report from this years ABCD Camp: Big Darius Washington raised Little Darius Washington for this. Groomed him. Challenged him. For this kind of atmosphere. For this kind of matchup. For this kind of game. So when the younger Washington got popped in the mouth on a first-half drive Tuesday night here at adidas' ABCD Camp -- when he tasted his own blood -- the rising junior point guard responded the only way he knew how. The 6-foot, 165-pound Orlando, Fla., prospect scored 21 points in a much-anticipated individual showdown with hyped Brooklyn counterpart Sebastian Telfair. He made six of his nine shots from the field and seven of his nine from the line. He added four assists and one steal along with no turnovers. "Darius didn't quit," his father said. "That busted lip made him play harder. He knew what he had to do." Darius Washington vs Sebastian Telfair

I really hate to see all of these prep stars list Louisville as a contender. Louisville will be looking for a PG next year and you know RP will be working this kid hard.
