By his own admission, Shagari Alleyne's basketball skills do not match his Gulliver-amongst-the-Lilliputians court presence. "I don't have a great game," Alleyne said last weekend. "But it's improving. I'm improving every day, every month, every year." That steady improvement for a player who stands 7-foot-3 made Alleyne perhaps the most compelling prospect at the summer camp scene this week. Other big men, especially here at the Adidas ABCD Camp, are more powerful, more polished, quicker afoot and more able to impose their will on the action. But no one here or at the Nike All-America Camp in Indianapolis, where Alleyne played, matched his aura of untapped potential. That mysterious what-if quality draws recruiters to Alleyne, whose name is pronounced Sha-GARR-ee Ah-LEAN. Kentucky, which is hoping to sign one or two big men this recruiting year, has lined up a visit.

At least he admits he needs to improve, and wants to improve.

We really need to sign this guy. I have always loved having a tall guy like that on the team. With Jules leaving, we need an even taller version.
