Tubby Smith's Kentucky Wildcats landed a gem from the Class of 2004 tonight when 6'4 190 lbs. 2G Adam Williams from St. Albans HS in St. Albans, West Virginia accepted their scholarship offer. Tex Williams, Adam's father who is also the coach at St. Albans, told ASR's publisher Bob Gibbons that Adam attended Tubby Smith's camp last week and played himself into a scholarship offer. Williams averaged 20.4 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks, and 3 steals per game last season on the way to all-state honors as a sophomore. He attends the same high school that current Florida guard Brett Nelson graduated from. He is bigger than Nelson was at the same stage and perhaps a better shooter. Adam was one of the participants in our most recent Bob Gibbons Evaluation Clinic at Suwanee Sports Academy in June. ASR editor Bob Gibbons says that Williams has, "Mike Dunleavy type versatility. He'll probably only grow another couple of inches, but he has a lot of the same qualities that Dunleavy possessed at the same stage. Only he's more physically developed. He is a flat out excellent shooter." In addition to being one of the top 25 players in the Class of 2004, Adam is also an excellent student with a 4.0 GPA according to his father. Adam Williams, a 6-4 leaper with size 15 shoes, apparently pushed the UK coaches over the edge by being named the most outstanding player of his class during last week’s Wildcat basketball camp. He’s been there before, and UK assistant coach Mike Williams visited the Civic Center to watch the swingman last season in the Hoops Classic. Williams has also been to watch the player at the University of Charleston’s Eddie King Gym, the temporary home for St. Albans.

Odd stuff. Just to be a junior and he's committing to UK. Interesting to hear more about him in the future to see if he ends up being a very good player.

If he's one of the top 25 players in the class of '04 and is a great shooter like Brett Nelson then we landed a very good player. I also like to see that GPA like that.

“I’m really happy,’’ Williams said. “As soon as Coach Smith offered, I accepted. Ever since I was young, that’s where I wanted to go. It wasn’t much of a decision.’’

I saw a little bit of this kid last night on TV. He reminded me a LOT of a kid who played for UK way back when. We MIGHT have ANOTHER KING OF LEXINGTON if he continues. SAME build, SAME moves. BUT, he DON'T shoot like a "MOTHER." VBG! ;D ;D

Adam Williams, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard/small forward who will be entering his junior year at St. Albans (W.Va.) High this fall, committed to the Cats. He is the son of a West Virginia coaching legend, Tex Williams, who is in his second stint as St. Albans coach after guiding teams for two NAIA schools in the Mountain State and the now-defunct CBA entry, the Charleston Gunners.

Its so tough to decide if a player is that good at an age where he isnt even mature physically and emotionally yet. This of course is not the same class as Perry so we need to get a point guard and a big man ASAP. Then we can start working more on the class of 04. Hope this kid ends up being a McD AA. I really want another one.

If he's one of the Top 25 players in the class, then he stands a good chance at becoming a Big Mac.
