Leon Powe
Realistically, he’s Donnell Harvey with offense. The lefty gets on the glass with the best of them. Only 6-7 but has long arms and is sturdy inside. He’s also a crafty scorer who just rises out of traffic to snag the difficult rebounds. Has really worked on his handle and can take biggers PFs out to the perimeter. Will make a 3 every now and then. Averaged over 25 a game as a junior. Made the 2001 adidas ABCD Underclassman All-Star Game.
Shagari Alleyne
Few players in the country have the ability to change an entire pace of the game. Alleyne, often bespectacled, is a big-time shot blocker who will one day play for pay. For now, he can help a college as a defensive intimidator and his offense is coming along. He has good hands and if he catches it in the paint, with his condor-like wingspan, you can count the bucket.
Chris Taft
One of the premier big man talents in the class. Taft can score inside and is fundamentally a good player. Like Eddie Griffin in years past, Taft rarely gets his shot blocked because he gets great extension to the rim. Plays at both ends and will pan out as one of the more highly-regarded big men in the nation.
Charlie Villanueva
Compares favorably with Detroit Pistons and former Charlotte 49ers forward Rodney White. Great size and when he’s on top of his game, he’s a terrific rebounder. However, the part of his game that sets him apart from other members of his class is his stroke to 3-point range where he can be particularly deadly. Member of the 2001 Long Island Panthers Big Time winning team. Reclassified entering his junior year; will be a huge national target.
Brian Butch
His reputation wasn’t earned like most top players. Instead of making a huge name for himself on the AAU circuit, he played well in just one national event before word finally leaked out during his junior year. College recruiters went to see him en masse and found out that while he’s extremely light, he’s very skilled and the size will come. Arizona went to watch him and offered on the spot. Will play with the Fox Valley Skillz AAU program.
