The offense got the better of the defense in Kentucky’s first major spring scrimmage Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.
Quarterbacks Mike Hartline, Morgan Newton and Ryan Mossakowski all saw action with the first-team offense. Hartline led the offense to a score on the first series of the scrimmage as he hooked up with Randall Cobb on a touchdown pass. Hartline was the most effective of the QB’s, finishing 10-of-15 passing for 153 yards and two TD’s. Newton was 8-of-16 for 116 yards and two touchdowns with one interception, and Mossakowski finished 5-of-11 for 88 yards with one TD and two interceptions.
Tailback Jonathan George led all rushers with 127 yards on 13 carries, including a 73-yard touchdown run. Cobb caught two early TD passes and then sat out the remainder of the scrimmage, and tailback Derrick Locke also took most of the afternoon off after some early carries.
