Former Florida forward Eloy Vargas is looking to take another unofficial visit to Kentucky in the coming weeks. He is planning a visit to Arizona on May 7-8 and then will visit Seattle University after that. Kentucky will be the last visit before he decides on a school. The currrent Miami-Dade JUCO player is averaging 21.1 points and 14.2 rebounds per game. He transferred to Miami-Dade after his freshman year at Florida, where he not only had ankle surgery but also had academic problems. He also seemed to have problems with Coach Billy Donovan, but that has seemed to be the case with everyone at Florida with the recent transfers.
Vargas would be a solid player and a great back-up option when Enes Kanter chooses to leave, most likely after one year. He, along with Marcus Thornton, are considered options for UK right now to create more depth in the frountcourt. He can rebound and can create problems defensively with his 6-foot-9 frame. Although he is averaging great numbers in the JUCO ranks, it is skeptical if he will average the same numbers after only having 0.6 points a game at Florida. He has seemed to show more interest in UK recently, and the interest is mutual. UK will have to scout hard to replace their frontcourt from last season, and Vargas would be a great addition for 2010.

Why is it that everyone seems to think that Enes Kanter is a one and done. If he is only going to school for one reason because he can't go directly to the NBA wouldn't it make more sense for him to continue playing in Europe for one season? Hey, at least he'd be getting paid to play there.

its simple, kanter wants to build his product in the united states, the nba is where? in the US! ncaa basketball is where? in the US! Players becoming well known in college helps their marketability when they go pro. Kanter is now our highest rated player by rivals rankings btw.

Hey, at least he'd be getting paid to play there. you could say this about every incoming one and done freshmen Of course you could say that about every incoming freshman, but Kanter is from Europe and has already been playing there. Most incoming freshmen here are in very different situations than Kanter. Kanter has already played for pro teams and there would be little if any adjustment for him. I don't think it's a matter of him building his "product" in the United States. The NBA every year is drafting more and more foreign players, and Kanter is already a known "product" to the NBA. Just my thinking on the matter. I don't think Kanter will be a one and one player. I could be wrong, but of all of the so called "one and done" players I think he is the most likely to break from that mold and for play at UK at least 3 years. I can see him getting his degree in three and leaving for the NBA.

Pass on Vargas....we don't need and Gaytor defectors. take vargas as it will be that much sweeter when he kicks his old teams butt!! In regards to Kanter YES I think he'll be one and done and I personally think he wanted to showcase his skills in the US.. I realize there is other opportunity outside the US, but in my opinion it's a quicker path to the NBA draft through college... (especially Kentucky) .....

I was reffering to himself as a product in the sense of the American market, playing in college with get the American public interested in him bc he is going to be a star. College stardom helps with a following in the nba where he might not be superstar starting out. Gets us american folks familiar with him.
