Domestique: Noun; from the French word for 'servant.' In cycling, one who rides in support of the leader of the team. The role of the domestique is to help the team leader win.Rene' Vietto was a former busboy who won a spot on the 1934 French national team, riding in support of the team leader Antonin Magne. On the sixteenth stage of the Tour De France, Vietto, an amazing climber, had already made it through the Pyrenees mountains and was well on his way to winning when he received word that his team leader, Magne, had crashed. So he turned around and rode back up the mountain he had just descended, offering his bicycle to Magne, who eventually won the race. Today, Vietto's roadside grave on a mountain pass near his hometown has become a shrine for fans of the cycling world...... Are you someones Domestique?
