Everyone knows that to have success on the football field, you have to win the battle in the trenches. And, while there are questions surrounding Kentucky’s football team heading into the 2011 campaign, apparently its ability to compete in the trenches on the offensive side of the ball shouldn’t be one of them, as ESPN’s SEC blog ranked the Cats’ offensive line fourth in the conference. They’re placed behind only Alabama, Ole Miss and LSU and, for those of you not too quick on the uptake, that means that Kentucky’s offensive line ranks at the top of the SEC East, one of the most potent divisions in all of college football. Not too bad…
4. Kentucky: The Wildcats return four starters on their line. Right guard Larry Warford headlines the group after gaining second-team All-SEC honors a year ago. Kentucky also returns two-year starter Stuart Hines at left guard and Matt Smith at center, who was solid in his first year there. Left tackle Chandler Burden missed spring practice, but is expected back by fall practice. Finding a suitable right tackle is the next step for Kentucky.
