Kentucky doesn’t have a traditional upperclassmen who will be a legitimate rotation player. But that’s fine. Kentucky coach John Calipari said Wright State senior transfer Julius Mays will fill that void. Mays played one season at Wright State (14.1ppg, 2.5 apg and 42.4 percent on 3s) after transferring from NC State. Calipari attended a Monday workout of the Wildcats and remarked about Mays’ shooting and overall experience. He also was extremely pleased with NC State transfer guard Ryan Harrow. But Calipari said Harrow and Mays could be coming off the bench. He said he fully expects at least two freshmen -- guard Archie Goodwin and forward Alex Poythress -- to start. The question is does he start both freshmen centers -- Nerlens Noel and/or Willie Cauley -- if he wants to go big? I would be stunned if Noel isn’t in the starting lineup. The question will be Cauley. Kyle Wiltjer, Mays and Harrow will be in the rotation and likely at times starters during the long season.

My opinion : PG: Harrow starts. Has experience and has played (practiced) in the system for a year. Wings: Goodwin and Mays. Not really a conventional 2 and 3 in Cal's system. These two are the shooters and slashers needed for a Cal wing player. Bigs: Noel and Poythress. Again, not really a true 4 or 5 in Cal's system. I agree that during the season Wiltjer and Cauley will start in some games, according to the situation, and both will definitely be in the rotation. I also expect Jon Hood to vie for some serious playing time. This opinion is based on what I know at the present time. I reserve the right to change at any time

I would have to agree with you SK. I do think that Cauley will see much more playing time by season end. He's going to be a very good player at UK. Wiltjer has yet to show me enough for me to think he's going to see many more minutes a game than he has already. He is going to have to prove himself on the defensive end of the court in order to garner much more time. I think the same can be said for Hood, but I think he's a little better defender already.
