After reading this today, it shows me where policy makers and the American public are disillusioned. After 9-11, the American public screamed for something to be done. It was unfathomable to think that an act of terrorism could be conducted on our soil.
What most Americans fail to realize, and also our policy makers is that we are not battling an army, but a group of people that are determined to destroy not only America and our way of life, but also the Jewish state of Israel. We fail to take into account the mind set of these people and assume that we can go into a country, place our constitution before them, and expect them to change over night.
Back when all of this started, General Shezinski decided that we needed to have on ground, 200,000 troops to do what Washington wanted. Keep in mind that he was the over all battle field commander. Donald Rumsfeld decided this was excess.
This coming from a man whom has never served, never been in the field of fire, nor has any ideal what it takes to do what they want. To maintain civil peace, take out the terrorist, to secure strategic locals, and general security of the country. You must have boots on the ground to do the tasks that are asked. If not, you end up with what we have now. A mess.
If Congress and the Senate allow our troop removal we will have a major vacuum in the Middle East. Whom do you think will fill this void? Do you think for one second they will be a more kinder, gentler nation state towards the U.S.? Will terrorism stop once we leave? Will the attacks on our nation continue, only escalating in nature.
We are there to support Iraq, give them some time to get in order, help build their military to take over, and provide security for most of the population who really want us their. Please do not lose focus on what is important not only for today, but for all of our security tomorrow.
I am a member of the United States military. We train everyday to go into battle and fight the enemies of our country. I was with the 101st eagles when they deployed. It is a fight worth fighting.
Please keep in mind that freedom is not free.
