Predictably, that post by William Arkin has set off a firestorm in the blogosphere that threatens to consume it for a couple of days. As a person who served 6 years as amercenary member of our armed forces hunting Soviet ballistic missile submarines during the cold war, I have a very strong negative reaction to harangues like Arkin's, as you might imagine. But I won't respond here, because so many others (as above) have done so, and done a much better job.
All I can say to our men and women in harm's way is "God bless you, and keep you safe from harm. While I sleep in my bed or type on my computer, you stand a post, determined that myself, my family and my countrymen will be safe from our enemies. Thank you."
