Its kind HARD to want him gone now with Barnhart as AD. His record in hiring a football coach tells me that with him BEING a football man, we would be in deep FECES believing him capable of hiring a GOOD Basketball coach

Barnhart or no Barnhart......there is no coach out there, who is looking for a job, better than coach Smith.

Well Rich Brooks' staff might be the best ever assembled at Kentucky and could be the nation's best staff. From the sound of things, his hiring wasn't so bad afterall...HOWEVER. Football is diff. You can hire a bad coach and still win if you have great coordinators, but still I think the Brooks hire is pretty good.
However, with that said, he wasn't the greatest choice (that would have been Walt Harris) but he is a good choice and Kentucky basketball doesnt need a good choice. We need to have at least one of the top 10 coaches in the country...and we do. We are pretty consistent at being a top 15 every year in the end.
I can't say what I want to happen because like most people, when we get down (like Vanderbilt) I'm cursing Tubby's name and questioning his abilities....BUT...when we are up (like Vanderbilt) I think he's King of the Earth (not really, but you see my point). Im not going to justify based off 10 losses...I think that's ludacrous considering the SOS and the SEC. If we lose in the first or second rounds this season AND first round of the SEC AND (ok only as additional thing) lose 11 or more games...something is wrong and it's not that Tubby would have to be fired because he's a bad coach...he just wouldn't be the right coach for our program because we want to win and we want to do it in style. Hence we are teh San Francisco 49ers and Tubby Smith is Steve Mariucci (except Tubby's won an NC).

I know this isn't the football board, but since the topic has been breached, I'll take the chance to add to it... Though I wasn't ecstatic when I first heard we hired Rich Brooks, I'm coming to believe this was an outstanding hire. Just heard this morning that Mike Archer will be the next DC for the Cats. That hire solidifies this as the most proven coaching staff in UK football history, and possibly, as Grant says, the best in the nation. Rich Brooks' hires are turning a lot of heads. If Barnhart can bring in that kind of talent with the lack of UK football tradition, I have quite a bit of faith in him should he have to hire a basketball coach.

To actually believe that Barnhart RECRUITED Brooks is to believe that he was NOT the first choice. Brooks was the CONSULTANT for Barnhart and only AFTER Barnhart failed to nab a top notch coach did Brooks say, "Hey there Mitch, I'M AVAILABLE even tho I haven't worked in TWO YEARS, but STILL have that FIRE." Well, I am 68 years YOUNG and I STILL have that FIRE as well even tho I STOPPED jumping out of perfectly good airplanes at 32,000 feet and opening my chute at 'either' 30,000 or 2500 TWO YEARS AGO. HALO AND HAHO are NOT something I want to do again at 68 years young. Hell, I HOPE that Brooks takes UK BACK to the dayz when Curci had us ranked right up there at the top, but, do it without paying street thugs a thousand bucks to break legs. Brooks HAS one of the BEST staffs around and like TedRay80 said. With Archer, who I wanted to see replace Curry, coming aboard as DC, the CATS could very well be on the way back. God, I would LOVE to see UK have TWO POWER HOUSE TEAMS AGAIN. Oh yeah, I CAN remember back when we DID. ;D ;D ;D

Settle down there fellows. It will take a few years of solid recruiting to get where you guys are dreaming of. I agree, I think good things are going to happen with the current staff.
