I thought that I would put this thread here in the "Tub" before some of the mods moved it here. After reading each post written since after today's game, I have counted no less than four members (who have previously identified themselves as "staunch" and "usual" or "always" Coach Smith supporters) that now state that their support is "going away" or is "not as much". Moreover, these are members who have been here at WM for a long time. They are not "one hit" posters who are just venting. I'm not posing a question or starting a debate......just making a public observation. "The times, they are a changin'".

Count me in as one whose support isn't wavering.
THis isn't news as we usually hear the same grumbles after a loss.

MBH, I agree with you. I'm one of those that has had my support of Tubby slowly erroded away by poor recruiting and even poorer offensive play.
I know Tubby is a great person, but at some point you have to look past the greatness and ask; "what have you done for me lately?".
This game and the season so far have been a huge indication of the direction this team is headed. Where is the help coming from? We have no big men coming in next season that are any threat inside, and the one's we have are a joke. Carter may prove to be otherwise, but right now he isn't a lot better than Woo or Shag.

Greatness equals perseverance and adaptation. In order to go from very good to great, the second must be implemented.

I agree as well, Spam. I don't think any of our big guys are a joke, but I do think it's a joke to suggest the first 7 games are an indication of where this team is going. I guess some people have never heard of teams improving until March. You don't judge a President's tenure just by his first two weeks in office, just like this team's value won't be judged by how they are doing just two weeks into the season.
I will agree the team took a step back last night, but everybody slips up every once and a while. Each game is important, but it's not college football where one game virtually ends national title hopes.

KT I understand what you are saying but I feel that we don't have the personnel to make progress with. There is no one other than Sims that can help out at the 4 and 5 spot. Bailey

This was the year that MANY thought would end in a final four or championship game. Well, MANY are seeing that this will more than likely be another year like the past 7 or 8. With our inside play very, very disappointing, I would say that we are regressing rather than progressing.

Most people pick a final four every year. 2006 is no different, Fox.

Tubby and his teams usually perform at their best when backed into a corner and seem to be on the hot seat. I think everyone here analyzes every little thing way too much sometimes. We don't know what Joe Crawford is thinking. We don't know what Rondo is thinking. etc.
For all we know, Joe will play next game and score 20 points and have 10 rebounds. Morris will get reinstated before the UofL game and start producing double doubles. Rondo will finally break open and start destroying every defense he faces. This crap happens every single year here at Maniacs. We lose a crucial game and everyone brings out their noose to hang the coach. Then Tubby brings us back to the top 5 and competes for the title.
I am just as disappointed as anyone, but history proves that Tubby and UK will overcome these early season stumbles.
It is actually a funny annual process to sit back and watch here at maniacs.
Preseason - "We are awesome, Tubby is great!" First few games - "Fire his tail, he stinks, recruits stink too!" mid season - "can you believe how much we've improved?" SEC Final - "Once again, we've concured." NCAA - "DAMMIT! One stinking shot or injury away from the final four again. Oh well, perhaps next year?"
Peace out!

Why is that we always hear Tubby's teams perform better in March well we always seem to come home early in March.

Elite 8 is never early in my book. But, to answer your question, we hear that because in fact Tubby's percentage in the NCAA tourney is in the top 6 of all active coaches. Whoever says that has a point based on the facts. I might need to start saying that more.

i was one of the posters whose support was wavering. just to clarify i am not advocating getting rid of Tubby, just disapointed because i think we should be better than we are. and yes kt we know about the winning percentage, but id much rather be in the final four and get real respect.

uk4life, you're not the only person that wants more final fours, but if people are talking about going deep in the tourney, Tubby has done that whether it's here, UGA, or Tulsa. You can't argue with stats, and I won't argue with you, as I've already posted the facts.
When's the last time Bobby Knight went to a final or even the Sweet 16 before this past season? Does he not deserve respect since it's been about 11 years?
You can let your support waver all you want. That's your perrogative, I'll support these guys whether they lose by 4 or win by 14 without wavering.
