we havent had this discussion before b/c i only started posting recently. i wasnt taking a shot, i merely asked a question. since you KNOW attendance is down, you must have some sort of estimate as to what the difference in attendace is. would you be so kind as to share that information with us?

We've won the national attendance award all but one of Tubby's seasons. When Pitino was here it seems like we didn't win except one or two of his seasons. And, attendance is a weak point to bring up anyway, because as big as UK basketball is we could fill it up every night if we wanted to. There isn't a lack of interest in the program to explain any decline in attendance (even if that decline isn't really a decline anyway).
Perhaps someday Tubby (and Tom Izzo) will tell people (including kj) how it is to coach in front of 60,000+ people... since we want to talk attendance. That's a thrill that you'll probably never experience. And, he won to boot.

I see where attendance is up the last two years over the two seasons before that. Maybe things are on the mend.

I voted Undecided for this. Tubby Smith does have a wonderful winning percentage with the University in the 8 years that he's been here. Yes he did win a National Championship the first year he was with us. But since he has had just his team he hasn't been able to win the big games. He has yet to bring us back to even the Final Four since 1998 and continues to struggle in the post season. He has had one great recruiting class, other than that though, nothing spectacular. His teams have never been able to produce on the offensive end which has led to many recruits shying away from our program.
In defense of Tubby Smith, the player's this year don't even seem like they want to play for Kentucky. He has coached them and led them to many victories in the past. He is a pretty proven coach, a winner, reported that he was being lured away from UK for UVA / the NBA, but he is still here and hopes to be for a while. It seems as though he cares about the program and its fans but his players aren't producing on the court. Hopefully we can gel more with Randolph back and allow Tubby to run his style of offense with getting big production from the inside.

I think our major problem is recruiting. Look at your senior class, junior class and so forth. the talent is just not there. Randolf will help the outside shooters by the double down, I just wish they could hit 38 - 40% Once they regain a little confidence and start knocking some down, we will be fine. Tubby the coach needs to up tempo more. That is the only complaint I have. Tubby the recruiter needs to quit and give that job to someone who can

Put Carter in at the five, move Morris to the four and Sims to the three.
Joe will man the two and Rondo the point. Start with this lineup start getting the ball into the post and let's see what kind of high low game Jared and Randolph can cook up. Sims has proven he can play the three and the guards will be great with these guys on the boards. Both Carter and Morris have good hands down low, and Morris can knock down the 8 - 10 with pretty good consistency. Of course we're going to have to get a good lead because once the bench starts coming in things will change in a hurry.

i think sims is slow as a 3, and doesn't possess the type of explosiveness that a brandon rush, or even azubuike had. they seem much quicker and can drive to the basket a lot better than rekalin.

I agree, but who else you going to put there. Crawford does not have the size to play there, and Perry doesn't have the talent. Sims is the only person we have that is a good candidate. We could stick with Joe there and start Bradley or Sparks at the two, but I think Joe is a liability at the three on the defensive end. Lock him up with a guard and he'll give you great D and scoring to boot. Sims doesn't have that explosive speed, but he does have a decent outside shot and the size guard most threes.

Sims doesn't have the hops that I expected either for the 3. He's a tweener much like Perry IMO, even tho Sims probably could be more effective.
I think what it all boils down to is the 2004 season. Back in that season we played 6 or 7 players (Fitch, Hawkins, Hayes, Kaz, Barbour, and Daniels). Perry and Thomas were on that team, but they didn't really get to develop much behind Hayes. Now they are kind of thrust into the mix. On the otherhand, the same could be said for Ravi Moss who is perhaps one of our 5 best players easily. The reason Moss is excelling IMO is that he's been here for 3 years and he gets Tubby Smith, much like Prince, Bogans, Magloire, Padgett, and Fitch did.
