A few years ago, I may have said he would. Not now. Why would you leave somewhere that can offer as much money, better year around weather, recruits out the yazoo, and are now a national program. Would you leave to come to Ky? It makes NO sense. Is there a chance? Sure, I guess there always is.

He's a fool to leave UF.
Pelphrey and Ford are good guys to have on the radar....but not a legit candidate if the coaching job were open at seasons end.

Stagger, I would agree with your statement. Maybe they do need a little more seasoning, but my understanding is Tubbys contract expires in 2012. Maybe he leaves to the NBA, or quits on his own. I dont know and expect him to be here the whole time. My money is that no matter what UK offers, Billy would not leave Fla. Their is just no reason too. If he tires of the college game, or his ego says he can do better, he will try the NBA.

The only reason I could see Billy leaving Florida is if he wants to win a championship at the most storied program in history. It would be about tradition and having his name attached to it. Other than that I just don't see any good reason to leave. I would love to have him, but I don't see it happening.

Never say never. Billy is doing great at Florida, that is true. But Billy himself has said in the past that when Kentucky comes calling, you have to listen. Billy will always play second fiddle to football in Florida, in Kentucky basketball is king. Our history does mean something, and you can bet his mentor (Pitino) is telling him if he gets the chance to go to Kentucky to go and never look back. Billy listens to Pitino and Pitino knows now that the NBA is not the place to be, and that Kentucky is the "Camelot" of basketball. It doesn't get better than Kentucky, and that means something.

I like Pelphrey and Ford is also doing good, and down the road I would like to see Pelphrey as coach. Pelphrey is a Kentucky boy who knows what it means to be a player at Kentucky, and you can bet he would never leave Kentucky for any other job. I think if the timing is right doown the road, he would be a good hire. He would need to pad his resume a bit more though. I don't see Tubby lasting until 2012, but if for some reason he does then Pelphrey should have a decent resume by then if he can keep it up.

UK can afford to buy out Tubby and sign Ford or Pelphrey. I'd like to see one of those guys at the helm sooner than later.
They've proven they have what it takes to build a team into a winner. It doesn't take a 20 year veteran coach to be able to handle a tier 1 D-1 school. Surround him with the right people and he'll do fine.

Im sorry guys, I cannot see any logical reasons why Billy would come here. I dont care if Rick pulls out the limo and drives him here hisself. It still makes 0 sense for him to leave Fla. Pelphrey or Ford would be my next assumption, but I dont make those calls.

Mitch, I said in another thread a week or so ago that I was ready for a change. I think Tubby is a very good coach, but with the way recruiting has gone, and continues to go I have come to the conclusion that it's time for Tubby to step down. I
I DO NOT WANT HIM FIRED! I will not speak ill of the man, and I appreciate him as a person and as an ambassador for the university. I just think it's time for Tubby to move on and let someone else give it a shot. If the University decides to stick with Tubby I'll support him as long as he is coach, but would love for Tubby to look for greener pastures.
I'd like to see some young visionary that understands what these kids are looking for come in here and build a program that is once again feared. I think Pelphrey, or Ford could do the job. My choice would be Pelphrey, but I'd take either one.

Yes BC, I know where you're coming from. I'm just stirring your pot as friends do to each other.
As each past season has rolled by, your concern for the future of the program has become more evident. IMO, your views for change is being echoed by more fans each season. While I have learned to respect those who show their undying support for Coach Smith, I find that those who do not feel that a change is needed are mostly from a different generation; a different fanbase who aren't accustomed to the intimidation that was BigBlue.
While program success often does wane or wax at most colleges, the University of Kentucky Men's Basketball Program has been at the pennicle of success. Even if the team didn't go deep in the tourney, they were a constant threat in the top 10 and in the nation's eye with great talent.
Many will argue that we are still in that era of ranking and talent.........I beg to differ.
Good luck tonight against UT.........we are going in as the underdog once again. Why is that the case more and more as the seasons go by?
