RPI and SOS mean nothing if you're yet to defeat a top 25 team. UK has not and will not beat any team of substance. Ummm why does everyone dismiss the IU win? Because they werent ranked when UK played them? Because they currently are.

But, the big question is how long have you followed the Cats? Not long I presume. Pat , Your presumtion is just that..presumtious. I have followed UK since 1978. Can YOU top that ? Did'nt think so. If memory serves, I believe he can. The 60's IIRC.

Why does it matter how long someone has been following Kentucky Basketball. I am 15, and I know just about everything on UK basketball history. What does it have to do with the fact that we are mediocre? Nothing. What it is about is that we have lost 3 straight games for the 3rd time in 2 seasons. That has not happened in 34 years. That was in Joe B. Hall's first 2 seasons. By the end of the season, we will have lost to every team we played that was ranked at the time we played them. That has not happened in 35 years. We have not been swept by vandy in 2 straight seasons in 34 years, and that was when vandy was a top 10 team. We have not been beaten 3 straight times by UNC in 13 seasons. The common denominator for all of those things: Tubby.
After last season Tubby told the fans that we were never going to have to suffer through another season like that. Record through 26 games last year: 17-9. Record through 26 games this year: 18-8. Wow! A one game improvement. He also said that we would have changes to the staff (who i will talk about later), and to the players (who i will talk about later). Well, no changes were made to the staff. The big changes came to the players, when over 1/2 of them left, either from graduating, transfering, or going to the NBA.
We have 6 Kentucky caliber players. Crawford, Bradley, Morris, Meeks, Stevenson, and Jasper. It is by amazing coincidence that we even have six. We should probably only have 3. Crawford tried to leave during his freshman season. Bradley didn't want to come back from New York, and Morris tried to go to the NBA. And i would think that Stevenson is very unhappy being stuck behind two players that couldn't start for Eastern Kentucky. It seems that we have been unable to hang on to any really good recruits without them trying to leave.
Now it is time to talk about the coaching staff. Our #1 assistant is a coach that couldn't cut it at Alabama. Reggie Hanson had 0 coaching experience, and then out of the blue he was offered a job as an assistant coach. And we expected him to come in here and make a difference? Scott Rigot, who has had the most experience between him and Hanson, is said to be a "highly successful recruiter especially in international circles". That must have been the man that got us Lukasz Obrzut, who has hardly done anything in his 4 years here.
Recruiting has also become a huge problem, since no one in their right mind would want to come play Tubby ball. We passed up on Chris Lofton and Corey Brewer. We lost out on the likes of Tyler Hansbrough, Brandan Wright, Gani Lawal, Thaddeus Young, Tyler Smith, Tasmin Mitchell, Anthony Randolph, JJ Hickson, and Gary Johnson in the last 3 years. But, not to worry, we can still get the likes of Bobby Perry, Sheray Thomas, Lukasz Obrzut, Adam Williams, Rekalin Sims, Shagari Alleyne, and Ramon Harris. We also may very well end up losing Patrick Patterson and Jai lucas, but we can sign Mike Williams.
It is time for a change in Kentucky basketball. How long will it be until Kentucky is forever engraned in recruits minds as a mediocre team, in the bottom half of the SEC. When does it stop? When we start losing recruits to schools worse than Iowa? When we lose to OVC caliber teams? Must we sink that low. I say that we need to stop our downward spiral before it can get any worse.

Because they werent ranked when UK played them? Because they currently are. Ummm...probably because they were playing pretty crappy, under a new coach, and thusly and deservedly were not ranked at the time. It's good that they are ranked now but it does not make the win it's self more impressive. We'd have more than our hands full with IU today. We've not beat a healthy team that should be within 10 of a good team on an average night. That's not good. I fear this team is less dangerous than last year's mess because though totally capable to being blown out, if they were not then they would at least sometimes pull it out. We're not good at all. Average...mediocre would be more accurate. Good teams can beat on occasion other good teams, this squad cannot beat an average team if they have their starters healthy. You may believe this to be the case but the hard evidence doesn't support that argument. AVERAGE TEAM. Even more average than last years Team Turmoil II.

Amen, great post. And this from someone who has been following the Cats since the days of Dampier and Riley. Has this thread given us a nickname for this team -- The Mediocats?

MR. Sparks I can top your 1978. How about 1954. I can tell you that NO UK TEAM has gone two years in a row and lost 3 games in a row in February dating back to Coach Rupp. I can also tell you no coach since Coach Rupp will have as many 10 loss seasons as Tubby if he isn't terminated. You can add to that the fact that NO UK TEAMS have gone more than 10 years without a Final Four. So, to you I say Final Fours, number of losses and playing a tough schedules (RPI) has always been a measuring stick for UK. Past coaches and teams have passed the test, it is ashame that Tubby's teams can't. Bailey

My brother and I were talking yesterday about the fact if Tubby leaves or stays if UK does not make a FF by 2010 it would be the first decade streak in UK history also. UK has been in at least one FF in every decade since the 40's. So even if Tubby is let go the new coach will have his work cut out for him to keep that streak alive as well...... but the program isn't down
