The sweet sixteen or better in 6 of his previous 9 seasons at UK. UK has been to the tourney ever year under the Tubbster. With a win tonight UK reaches 20 wins, which they have done ever year under Tubby. Don't take this man for granted..he is the real deal.

Adding all of Tubbys accomplishments together and they are impressive, plus the man has been nothing but up standing for the University. I applaud him for that. But first and foremost he is held accountable for the teams record and performance. Have no doubt that this is not amature, basketball makes serious money for the University. The fan base and the Admin. expect results. The last 2 years have been really awful to watch and not up to the prior standards that have exsisted here before I was born. Fairly or unfairly the Head Coach is held accountable for that. Once the fan base turns on you, your days are numbered.

We are Kentucky. We are supposed to get into the NCAA tournament. 20 wins is not a huge amount if you play almost 35 games.

I agree tay. I posted the 20 win thing a while back. I just don't feel like looking for it again. Sparks has a great attitude and I know he means well, but any numbers or stats he brings up have been shot down and half the stats are about mediocre things. That is not UK, UK is NOT SUPPOSED TO BE MEDIOCRE.

ANd another year without going to the Final Four. And...And....

In comparison, Pitino took Kentucky to the Elite Eight 5 out of the 6 times we were eligible. Tubby has taken kentucky to 4 Elite Eights in 9 seasons that we were eligible. Of the 5 times under pitino that we went to the Elite 8, 3 of those times we went to the final 4. In the 4 times that Tubby has taken us, we have only made it into the final 4 one time.

That's the comparison that I like to refer to. People often say that it was a different era then and there's more parity, etc. Honoring that philosophy is to say that it can't be done again. I wonder if people were saying the same thing when UCLA was on their streak?

Since UK's last appearance in the FF, Duke, Mich St., UConn, Kansas, and UNC have had multiple appearances. So, I don't buy into that. With the notable exception of George Mason last season, it's the usual suspects in the FF most years. BTW, UK's 90s FF teams beat guys like Van Horn, Duncan, Andre Miller, Rodney Rogers, Bob Sura, Marcus Camby, Bobby Jackson, etc. to get there. And during UK's domination of the SEC in the 90s, little-known players like Chris Jackson, Robert Horry, Shaq, Wesley Person, Jason Williams, Allan Houston, All of the Arkansas guys, and others not mentioned were in the league. The Cats weren't beating up on pansies.

I agree spectre. The SEC in the 90's was #1 or #2 along with the ACC and BIG East like it is now.

Bad recruiting and a slow temp offense has led to the recent decline. I do think Coach Smith understands what needs to be done. He re-hired Feeny to lead the recruiting and has tried to get better athletes on the court to move at a quicker pace. Last years team had problems with chimistry and did its best to implode but still came within a few points of knocking off the #1 overall seed. This years team is trying really hard to adjust to the new players and a quicker tempo. With the addittion of the next class, I think Tubby will start to turn things back in the right direction.
