Good...maybe we land both Lucas and Patterson now. Bad... Personally I like to look at the long term success of this program and I still believe it doesn't include Tubby. There's is NO WAY I'd want Tubby back just to obtain a couple quality recruits. Recruits will come and go, but a sub-par coach is apparently difficult to get rid of.

Sorry but 2 McDonalds All-Americans could put UK right back on the map.
We are at the cross roads with these two kids, if we land both we are top 10 next year, land one top 20, land neither .....

Sorry but 2 McDonalds All-Americans could put UK right back on the map. Not really. A perfect scenerio of a) Morris, AND the rest of the Jr. class, staying AND b) Patterson AND Lucas signing and the Cats are back on the map. Anything less and the Cats are STILL rebuilding.

Personally, I think that Coach Smith is using the possibilities of Patterson and Lucas as leverage.......I suppose I would be doing the same. As I posted on another thread, my guy in Lexington says Coach Smith is a sure thing for another year and the Recruits have been assured of it.
Now, what if they end up choosing another school anyway? What does that say in support of our coach? I suppose that I would be reading too much into that, but what if?

Winning the NCAA does take some luck....BUT it doesn't luckily happen to a sub-par coach. Don't give me the BS about Rick's players....that may be harder, winning an NCAA with another guys players at times....but you aren't a sub-par coach and winning the whole thing.

Maybe that's right but under the right conditions a poor program manager, a very inconsistent recruiter, and a dicey developer of talent did. Coaching in D-1 means more than X's and O's. Tubby is only good at one aspect of his very big job. His being good at holding onto timeouts and putting in plays is no different than a guy who can't do much other than recruit. Plus, his offense is terrible. He just doesn't have enough strengths. 98 tells me more and more that Tubby is someone who can do well if someone else sets his table. Maybe the NBA is a better fit. You've got a GM. The talent is developed by others, and the rules (and the talent) dictate what you can do on both ends more. Maybe if you strip it down to purely what happens on the sidelines, then Tubby can be a GREAT coach but that's not the job at an elite or any major D-1 program. For the purposes of being in charge of the Kentucky Basketball program Tubby is subpar, break it down however you want but he does not display the appropriate overall skillset required for the position, no matter how good a coach he is it is not enough.
