And I'm not talking about either of my ex-wives! ;D ;D It's D S L!!! My modem burned out last week, AOL is shipping me a new one, but I miss it like crazy! Had to go back to dial-up, can't be on the phone and the Net at the same time. Wow, the comforts of life, we live without them for so long, then once we get them we wonder how we survived!

I wouldn't know. I'm on dial-up myself but in the near future I'll have the option of choosing DSL or Cable. I don't know which to choose. I'll have to surf and see the pros and cons of each.

DSL vs cable....very good question. Unfortunately for me, I live something like 6 ft too far away for DSL and our cable company determined we don't need digital cable & internet access for at least another 6 months.
However, I have done a little research on the 2 animals FWIW.
Cable: phone line not tied up, high-speed connection, but cost may be prohibitive (depends on the area...I have seen huge flucuations in cable access so cost may very well be a determining factor where you live)
DSL: phone line not tied up, high-speed connection.
Ok, so they sound pretty equal, right? But keep one thing in mind: cable connections will end up being shared band-width, so as time goes by and more users get cable, you will more than likely see significant performace decreases. DSL is pretty much going to be as fast next year as it is today, regardless of how many people go the DSL route. If you are currently paying for a second phone line for dial-up internet use, you can do away with it as DSL "splits" your phone line into voice & data.

Unfortunately I am stuck with dial up..They still do not offer DSL to my area..And when they do it will be so expensive that you can't afford it for a while. But I would like to have it sometime!

I've seen some advertisement for DSL on the television for about $50 a month. Right now Pacific Bell is offereing it for $29.95 for the first three months, but they didn't say what the price is after the three months are up. I got mine through AOL, it splits my phone line so that we can talk and surf the Net at the same time, and there is a very noticeable difference in the connection speed between the dial up and AOL's DSL. And I got it for $19.95 a month! Dang, I hope that new modem arrives today!

I had cable for a long time. I loved it, but it was just too expensive.
