Recent studies have been released that claim drivers using their cell phone are as much, if not more impaired than people under the influence of alcohol.
I have a cell phone and have been guilty myself of taking calls while I was driving, though I have always made every effort to keep such calls as brief as possible. I would have no objections, however, to a law banning drivers from making calls while their vehicle was on the road. There have been several occasions where I have narrowly avoided being hit by someone who wasn't paying attention because they were yakking away on their cell phone and just slid right on through a red light or stop sign.
Opponents of this claim we have too many laws already...who needs another one?

Keep 'em. Just avoid strenous conversations. IMO it's not that hard to talk and drive.

You ought to be in my neck of the woods Kid...there are people that find it very challenging to drive while doing nothing but driving! ;D

I put couldnt care less. I am sure I have an opinion, but I talk on my phone a lot and I shouldnt. I get mad when other people do it so I'd be a hypocrite if I said no.

If it is an emergency, or just a short call to remind someone of something, like to tell them that you're on your way, then that's OK. It's when people get into complicated conversations and get consumed with their thoughts and what they're saying that they get into accidents while talking on the phone and driving.

I think people have a hard enough time driving WITHOUT the use of cell phones. ;D

They are great to have for an emergency, i know this from personel experience. I also have an adaptor that fits in your ear and is very easy to use and this to me seems to help alot on your concentration while driving.

I ride a motorbike and seeing a cell phone in use by a cager is a big warning sign for me!!! I really wish people would pay attention to driving - saying I'm sorry to me just doesn't cut it anymore. And now my new theory of why Nawth Kerolina drivers can't turn right very well (slow to almost stop, swing out left, then cross the centerline in the street turned onto). NASCAR only turns left.

IMO, there are VERY few instances where a call cannot wait until you can pull off the road for a moment. I do keep my cell phone with me (have to due to work), but I don't place calls while I am driving unless I HAVE pulled off the road (or perhaps while I'm waiting in line at a drive-thru). And I am tiring very quickly of having to listen to every Tom, Dick, Jane and Sally talk to whoever while they are grocery shopping. No lie: while in the produce section last week, this lady picking up some bananas was talking on her cell phone to someone and quite frankly, I could have lived without hearing her tell her caller about how horrible her hemmorhoids were!
