Although he's been labeled "too small" to play tight end, or "too slow" to be a wide receiver, James Whalen has found his niche. He catches the ball. Nearly every ball. No matter where it's thrown. And that alone has the Cowboys looking for room, even if they have to create room, for him on the final 53-man roster. Although training camp is less than two weeks old, Whalen continues to catch nearly every pass thrown his direction. Whether it's between two linebackers over the middle, down the field behind a defensive back, on the sideline, with two hands or just one, Whalen has already racked up quite a highlight reel, albeit in practice. But if that carries over into the preseason games, just as it did a year ago, and he stays healthy this time, the Cowboys will likely have no other choice but to keep him for the second year in a row.
