Joe Spurlin, a junior college player from California, will come to Kentucky as a walk-on with the hopes of earning a scholarship in the future. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound safety will have three years of eligibility remaining after transferring from Bakersfield College. "I'm very excited about coming to Kentucky," Spurlin said from his Redding, Calif., home. "I've gotten pretty tired of this juco ball, so I'm definitely looking forward to playing football in the SEC out there in front of 70-80,000 fans every week against a great schedule. "When I came down there for the combine, I knew it was the place for me. It's a beautiful school, the people were so nice, and they've got some great facilities. I'm looking forward to spending my next three years there." Spurlin recently attended a juco combine on the UK campus. He came as a relatively unknown player, but left a big impression on the combine organizers and participants by turning in a 4.4 time in the 40-yard dash, a 4.2 time in the pro shuttle on a slick surface, and a 36-inch vertical leap.

4.4 in the 40, and a 36" vertical. That's impressive.

Wow Kid, those are impressive numbers! We need someone with that speed and leaping ability in our secondary, especially when we go up against the vols and the Gators. Great news!

That is very awesome that he will walk on because he likes our coaches so much. Guy Morriss is one awesome dude. I hope he can bring excitement to football again.
