Sorry if the title is gruesome, however war is exactly that. My prayers go out to this man and his family.......- BAGHDAD, Iraq - A video posted Tuesday on an al-Qaida-linked Web site showed the beheading an American civilian in Iraq (news - web sites) in what was said to be revenge for abuse of Iraqi prisoners. Prison abuse by some American soldiers to prisoners is not a reason to do this, It is an excuse ! We have done nothing like this to their Prisoners and this should remind all of the type of People we are fighting against ! If their was ever any doudt that Iraq and Usama Bin Laden had an alliance, then I hope that now all see the alliance was real "My name is Nick Berg, my father's name is Michael, my mother's name is Suzanne," the man said on the video. "I have a brother and sister, David and Sarah. I live in ... Philadelphia." After reading a statement, the men were seen pulling the man to his side and putting a large knife to his neck. A scream sounded as the men cut his head off, shouting "Allahu akbar!" — "God is great!" They then held the head up to the camera. story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&u=/ap/20040511/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_3

Empathy and enraged!!!! This is WAR and we're NOT in control like many believe. It's time to step up again. If you kill an American....YOU DIE. If an American is fired upon, we'll run a convoy up your ***. Enough of this politically correct crap! Our politicians and lawmakers don't win wars, WE do. The comomon 'folk' so to speak. WE'RE the one's one the battlefield everyday. Our neighbors. Our family. Our friends. Don't talk to me about POW etiquette. Many Americans were outraged by the photo's of the Iraqi POW's and their treatment. How do you feel now? Look at this picture and think about it. This man's son was not a soldier. He was an American civilian. A CIVILIAN! This culture of people do not know the concept of humanity. They shout praise to Allah and commit cold blooded murder. This is the face of Nick Berg. This man was not only held captive by a renegade group of Islamic militants, he was detained for nearly two weeks by the Iraqi police. That's right, the IRAQI POLICE. That should be US!War is hell and it's high time we showed them just what hell is like!!!!!!!
Sorry for the rant but this is a VERY touchy subject for me. The USA is judged 'globally' on pics of POW 'abuse' while civilians continue to be slaughtered by an enemy with no signs of remorse. The good book says it So I know it's the truth An eye for an eye And a tooth for a tooth
You better watch were you go And remember where you've been That's the way I see it I'm a Simple Man

SPAM, KBIT--My feeling exactly. Great post!!!!!! I am very glad to see someone else agrees with what I was posting yesterday so strongly.
Where was the outrage when the bodies were burnt, dragged and hanged. Then, the politions grandstand about the treatment of prisoners, then this, what are they going to say now?

I guess I'm in the minority here. First let me state clearly that I too am outraged at what happened. I was nearly sick to my stomach when I heard about it. It is inhumane, and was carried out by a barbaric people that care nothing for an American life. I truly believe that those responsible should be brought to justice. I do not and will never use this act, or any similar act as justification to stoop to the level that these people have gone.
As Americans we are scrutinized more than any other nation on earth and rightly so. This is the greatest nation on earth, and has been truly blessed by God. Those that do not hold to our faith view us as evil because of our blessings. To them we truly are infadels.
What some of our soldiers have engaged in over there has just added fuel to the fire. These people have never needed an excuse for their terror, but now we have given them photos, and video for them to use in their propoganda.
We take great care in battle to limit the collateral damage so as to preserve our image of being a fair and just nation. We cannot allow that to be tarnished in the eyes of the civilized world by exacting brutality for brutality.
Gusy I respect your opinions, and I feel the outrage, and I hurt in my heart as well, but I think we must act with prudence.
I have a first cousing leaving for Iraq in two weeks to work for the military over there. I don't want to see any harm come to her either. My prayers will go with her, and I hope that she comes home alright, but it is her decision to go; all I can do is pray for her.
My heart does go out for the family of Nick Berg, and I hope that when all is said and done this nation of ours is still viewed as a mighty, and just nation.
If it were in my power all of our men, and women would be coming home. Our job there in Iraq is done. It's time now to focus on terror deterent at home and continue the search for Osama Bin Laden.

BC wrote - We cannot allow that to be tarnished in the eyes of the civilized world by exacting brutality for brutality. BC, Im not saying getting one of their guys and do the same, Im saying lets finish the job and quit horsing around, if it takes it, lets send back in the heavy troops, go after these Renegade troops that continue to cause us trouble and get our men and woman back home. I disagree that the job is done, if we left right now, the renegades that followed Saddam would probably, with the help of AlQueda be able to overthrow what little the new Iraqui's have in place. But , for example, theres one city where we know alot of them are held up in, I think it is in Fallujah, yet we talk through the priest and stuff, trying to get them to give up, and we try not to blow up santuarys to keep from looking bad ! All the while their kidnapping our people over their, setting hidden bombs that are killing our soldiers !Thats BS ! Its time to Get Er Done !! Lets quit playing games with these people, do like we did in the beginning, and show them we have NO INTENT on Americans dying, and any such actions against such, are going to be dealt with Swiftly and Fiercely ! (Israel fought wars and God commanded them to destroy infidels, and thats exactly what alot of these scums over their are, and I dont think God expects us to stand by and take it. ) This country continues to stand and fight for Israel, Gods beloved, and also to fight for things that are right as far as human rights all over the world, and I beleive God is standing in our corner now, (propoganda) is all they have, and its time to put a final stop to this! Take out the infidels, and lets play no more , pretty please come out junk ! Lets finish and come home !

BlueCat--No, you are not a minority here. You are a concerned American just like the rest of us. Good post, and I agree with you my friend.
I also was supposed to leave Sunday, May 9, to go to Houston and then on to Iraq with KBR. However, had to put it off for at least a month. I have a brother in the Army that had his year up last month, but was extended another 120 days. Best of luck to your first cousin on her tour in Iraq, may she come home safe.
KBIT--I also agree with your post, let's get done and come home.
Has anyone noticed that not a single Musilun leader, Iraq or other bardaric country has come forward to apoligized or say anything against the killings.
The treatment of the prisoners was not right, but I do not think we should give a public apology until we get one from the Iraq public.

I really hate to sound negative and pessimistic about the future of the world, but we are in some bad times. We are all at home on our computers just loving the life we have and arguing about gas prices and higher taxes. Just waiting in the wings is the worst terrorist attack known to man. These people are crazed lunatics and will kill thousands of themselves if it completely disrupts or wipes out a whole race.
While this is the News Headline forum, people need to wake up and make a change in leadership in this country. Bush has been a controversial president and based on your party affiliation you will choose what you think of him. I'm an independent so I really have a favorable and not so favorable opinion. The fact is that yes, we have a war on terrorism, but we also have to mend our relationship with the world. Bush has ruined our relationship with the world. He's turned America into a political behemoth that rules the world with an iron fist. This is not the image we need.
We have to stop treating Muslims like the enemy. Terrorists yes, but we are starting under Bush to get to a point where Islam=terrorism. Radical muslims are being recruited daily by the thousands. What's going on in Iraq is the worst possible Vietnam we can think of. No one likes to mention Vietnam, but what's going on in Iraq is in my opinion much worse. Vietnam was a controversial war that affected a few countries, whereas the war in Iraq is affecting the whole world and more than just soliders in Iraq, it's going to affect American's in America. There will come a day when terrorists will do something so extreme there will be no what ifs. We've got to start to bring our troops home and start building a country soft on domestic terrorism. America is easy to beat up at home and the more we are spread out fighting a winless war the weaker we are at home. Christians dont believe in Jihad, but unfortunately we are taking Jihad to the Islamic world.
The only way to get back on track in the world is to get new leadership because our country's image is in serious jeopardy and we don't need any more militants entering this country because they hate us so much. This beheading is the final straw as to what's happened with our image in the world and why we have to do something. As a predominanty Christian nation of peace, we need to start acting like one and defending ourselves in our land and not theirs.

TG, you know, I honestly do see where you are coming from, and I do have some of the same concerns as well. I guess by all rights I should be considered an Independent as well. I lean toward the Democrats on monetary issues, but the Republicans strongly on moral issues. I do however always vote for the one I think would do the best job(as long as he has high moral standards), in this case though, I honestly have to say, Kerry just dosnt impress me. I do think America has to be strong but do things in a right way though. No matter what happens, we all seem to agree, lets get this job finished, and bring our men and woman home !

TG, I must admit that I'm not impressed with the way that Bush has handled a lot of things, and I wouldn't mind seeing a change at the top if there were a better alternative. I don't want to get politcal here, and I won't debate politics or religion with anyone. All I will say is that once again I will likely vote for Bush. I don't see anyone else running that represents my view of the issues most important to me than Bush does. I certainly understand your point of view, and I respect it as well. One area that I'm not please with Bush in is the handling of Iraq. I supported getting Sadaam out of power, and liberating Iraq. I do not support occupation. It's time to turn things over to the UN. Enough American lives have been sacrificed already.
Mr. Bush, Bring our people home!

I just watched the video in it's entirety and now I'm sick. Just seeing pics and reading about these things just doesn't have the same impact as seeing it with my own eyes. This isn't an isolated event. It happens all the time. A friend of mine just got back from serving 14 straight months over there and he says these barbaric things happen all the time. People killed and their bodies set out for all to see with notes attatched to them and Americans tortured by dragging them through the streets by an automoblie with a rope tied to their neck. IMO the group released this footage in light of the recent pics of the Iraqi POW's. Don't let that sway your thinking because the only difference between this incident and many others is the fact that this one was televised. I stand by what I've said above. This must be stopped! P.S. I'm not going to post a link to the video but if you'd like to see it, just send me a PM. I warn you though, it's difficult to handle. PM at your own risk. My prayers go out to this family and all others affected by this war.

To me, Iraq and Al Quadea are together and have had ties together for some time, I honestly beleive this, so this is all I have to say about it, they brought it on themselves........

Question:
Are militant groups subject to the Geneva Convention?
Also, since many captured by the US are members of these groups, are they actually considered POW's?
