Barbour will not be a freshman, and he wasn't playing in high school last year. Besides point guards new to the NCAA have succeeded before. Anyway it would only be for about 10 games.

Kentucky has had a problem at the point ever since saul was annointed over a BETTER player, {BLEVINS} and the recruitment of a point guard has NOT been that good. WHO will take over for Hawk is the coachs responsibility and he should have been prepared for just such a thing. He should have had SOMEONE looking out for something like this and corrected it before it festered to the point it is now. that is NOT having the schools BEST interest at heart and that fault rests on the coaching staff. I am sorry if I come off as ANTI UK, of which I AM NOT, but when you have a job that carries so much responsibility as Tubby has, you NEED more responsible assistants and we are sorely lacking in that area.Heck, Tubby can't possibly be expected to be everywhere, but he DID make the decision to hire Hobbs which has IMOE harmed the program more than it has helped I finally decided to register so that I could respond to this post. Perhaps you should develop ONE thread where all Tubby debates can go on so we don't have to read this. Busted, I've read several of your posts and enjoyed most. This one, I have to take issue with, though. Remember that Maryland team that won the championship in 2002? Here's what a preview of their season said regarding point guard... "Nicholas was asked by Maryland coaches to sharpen his skills as a ballhandler and learn the task of backing Blake at the point... And then there is freshman newcomer Andre Collins, the rookie to the Terps' guard rotation in 2001-02 who is hoped will provide additional quickness and a second pure point guard. New to the college level, the 5-9 fireball boasted 15.6 points and eight assists per game at Hargrave Military Academy while helping his club to a 27-1 record. In his final two seasons at Crisfield (Md.) High School, Collins averaged 29 and 30 points as a junior and senior, respectively." Now try going back through there and substituting the names Fitch, Stockton and Kentucky for Nicholas, Collins and Maryland, respectively. Guess Gary Williams is a pretty lousy coach, too. He only had one good, proven point guard!! Good thing his team bailed him out to win a title. "WHO will take over for Hawk is the coachs responsibility and he should have been prepared for just such a thing" There are plenty of other teams in the nation without two or more proven point guards, and there are certainly others that have players who don't make the grade. I'm sure some of those teams have very good coaches, too. Please leave the arguments for why Tubby is a terrible coach to the "I Hate Tubby" thread so these threads can be used for meaningful posts. I see the relevance with this one, at least, but it seems more like an attempt to vent frustration than to stay on-topic. Hope to see more good commentary about Cliff Hawkins on this thread. Glad to be here, Teddy

well ted, since you decided to jump right in, you seem to have landed with BOTH feet right on me. just because I am NOT a Tubby fan does not disqualify me as a WILDCAT fan. And, Hargrave Military Academy where Collins played is hardly a HIGH SCHOOL as many, many Div 1 players come from there. Furthermore, if you read my entire post you will see that I did NOT place the entire blame on Tubby. Indirectly, he is responsible because he did hire Hobbs who in my estimation contributes absolutly nothing to the team
THIS======Heck, Tubby can't possibly be expected to be everywhere, but he DID make the decision to hire Hobbs which has IMOE harmed the program more than it has helped. Do you actually believe that Hobbs is capable of handling a program as big as UK is? If you do, then you need to have a talk with Tidalwave and ask him what the fans at bama thought of his coaching abilities. You see, when you are the coach at a school like UK and have a BUDDY who is desperate for a job, sinceNOBODY came knocking on Hobbs door and he asks his BUDDY for help, you FIRST look at the situation you are responible for and THEN ask yourself IF what you are about to do will HELP the program you are responsible for and if you come up with a LARGE QUESTION MARK as is the case with Hobbs, then the proper thing to do is say SORRY. One more question ted and I will give it a rest. WHOSE responsibility IS IT to see HOW a STUDENT/ATHLETE is doing in class?

Busted, Tubby isn't responsible for anything remember. The kids should be self motivated, he can't make plays for them, he can't keep them out of trouble, they don't run his offenses, don't play his defense, and Tubby can't help if some are lazy and don't realize their potential. It has nothing to do with the head man's decisions.
He just shows up to work with his cronies, collects nearly 2 mill a year, loses us 10 games, and takes us to the glorious sweet 16. If that is your cup of tea, drink up. I can love the UK program and have for many years, but I can also see what road we're headed down if present leadership doesn't make some changes.

Welcome TedRay! It's so good to see you FINALLY posting! I think you are the longest known "guest" any board has ever had!
You make some very valid points and things that needed to be said across Big Blue Country. Kids should be self motivated in school. Why? Because if a kid is going to get a scholarship, it is THEIR duty to keep it! Good to get your perspective as a college student going through the same times as the basketball players.
Point noted and there will be no more discussion on this thread about Tubby.
That's what the thread is about and we intend to keep it that way. Will add that I really hope Cliff does well in summer school so we can have him back in the Fall! Go Cats!

I agree with that Jim. But I would see Fitch and Barbour as a 1-2 combo at the point as well as a Hayes-Kaz-Barbour triple at the 3 spot. I think Bogans will start and play mostly as a 2 guard from now on. Could be one of the more versatile UK teams we've had.

Barbour taking over the reins as PG with 10 games left in their regular season, and played them into the Final 4 of NJCAA, says something about Barbour ability to lead a team. Junior College or not. ED

That's a good point about Barbour, Ed. He probably could have been player of the year in juco ranks had he played a position he was more dominant in. Perhaps that was to our advantage. Cliff is an excellent ball handler and it won't hurt to have several ball handlers on the team capable of running the team. However, none can do what Hawk did again N'Sima and Louisville in Rupp. That was one of the greatest plays of the year by any point guard in the country.

==Kids should be self motivated in school. Why? Because if a kid is going to get a scholarship, it is THEIR duty to keep it!
is something I would ask parents today. WOULD THEY NOT assist their children IF they were struggling in school? SAME thang in college my friend. These kids NEED help because of their basketball schedule interfering with class and WHO BUT the coach should they turn to since HE is the one who told the kids parents that HE would be a FATHER figure for their kid and SEE to it that they were STUDENTS FIRST, so that smacks at a negligence on the man who was SUPPOSED to watch over them to me. Sorry if I am busting somebodys bubble here, but IF we are NOT allowed to post feelings other than LOVE for the coach, then we are falling into the SAME realm of other boards who either DELETE or SEVERLY EDIT a post that has Tubby "BASHING" in it. First, I have NEVER said that I HATE Tubby. ALL I have ever said was that I did NOT like him and I do NOT like him. I didn't like him when he was an assistant at UK and I have not liked his condecending ways since. However, I have ALWAYS supported him because he IS the head man. It is NOT a prerequisite that some FANACTIC wildcat fan also be a fan of the coach is it?

Oh, good gosh people, do we have to start looking like another board??. That's why I came here and other boards. Yes, we can all disagree, but I am seeing the same ol', same ol' from those that do not like Tubby thinking people are censoring them. That's crap!!!! If you read the guidelines, they are pretty much the same as other places; state your opinion, but if it is deemed an attack on an individual, then it's going to get yanked. OK, my rant is over.
I don't like the fact Hawk might be out a few games, but I don't see us being weak in that spot for backups. Barbour has proven himself at least on level of college ball and I feel he will at D1. Stockton seems to be one that may be able to setp in and contribute enough to help until Hawk is back. Much as I did not like the idea, Fitch can be a dependable backup at pg.
