If he takes responsibility then he should be fired. This one shocked me and made me mad. What kind of people have we become?

Read the Secretary's quote again guys......
He(Rumsfeld) stated that since the offenses occured on "his watch", them he takes responsibility for them....as any man of duty and responsibility should.
Get real.

And where is the apology from Iraq for the continuous killing of innocent people, not to mention soldiers being killed everyday.

WHERE is the apology for the contractors that were burned and the bodies dragged through the streets and hung from a bridge. How many Iraq people came forward and said they were sorry?
Does that not count?
Where were the outraged senators when that happened?
Where were they then? But they can grandstand now.
They make me sick.

Guys I understand the outrage. I feel it too. Although I've never been in combat or ever been in the military. I honestly feel that we should rise above the barbaric, tasteless treatment that we have seen happen to our own. There are times that I too want to just nuke them, but public humilliation of any human being is wrong. War sometimes is neccessary, but defensless human beings whether combatant or not should be treated with the same dignity that we would want ourselves. Repayment of evil with evil only breeds more evil.

To me, I hate to see it stated that if it was on their watch, they should resign, and heres why. NO one man, can control what goes on in every nook and cranny in any big organization, much less the United States Military. Should these people be tried and punished? ABSOLUTELY; beyond any shadow of a doubt,!!! If Rumsfeld had been their, watched it happen, and let them do it, then yes, but to say any, and I mean any 1 person can know what Millions of others do 24/7 is just to hard. I was in charge of 100's of officers, and did my best, but still, you cant be their with them everywhere each one goes and all they do, its impossible

I do not think the actions of our troops are just as far as the prisoners, but I do NOT believe that this should overshadow what we are over there for. NOR the sacrifices given by so many American troops, many with there own lives.
LEAST we not forget we are over there to save a country. Make that, SAVING a country. WHERE is the gratitude from the people of IRAQ and the rest of the world.... How much money are the other countries kicking in to help??? IMHO, this is the time we should stand up for our troops and country and show we recognize the wrong, but show them we support them MORE, MORE, MORE than ever.
Now we have politians grandstand for theives, thugs, murderers and terrorists. I say, shame on them, I hope the voters remember.
MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT, these people (the prisoners) would be burning Americans, dragging them through the streets and hanging them up spitting on them if they were free. And killing our troops, and their own people if they were free.
I am still awaiting the Iraq apology for this conduct which was 100 times worst than the treatment of the murderous prisoners.
Just ask the families of the people who were burned, dragged through the streets and hung from the bridge.
Just how sorry does anyone think they feel for the prisoners.

All though it may seem that I have somewhat of a strong opinion about this issue, please note that I do not mean to offend anyone, and I do respect every other opinion stated on this board irreguardless if they agree with me.
I just wish (at this time) the world and Iraq could remember, "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE"

On the web, is an article about a video that was released, show on TV, of the beheading of an American contractor. This was in response to the tratment of prisoners.
MOST of the PEOPLE OVER THERE ARE NO MORE THAN ANIMALS.

I say they are animals because most of the general population cheered when the burnt bodies were dragged through the streets and hung on the bridge.
Where was the media and bleeding liberal hearts when this happened?
Why were they not outraged over this event?

Not because it was his fault. As someone else said, one man cannot control everything. However, the fact he's known about since October, and they've done nothing and dind't even tell congress is deeply disturbing.

KY Kid, When you take that oath, and travel outside of our "comfy American bubble", you will be previledged to see just what goes on in the real world. Freedom of speech and the right to know is all great. but when it comes down to it (as you will see), the American public doesn't need to know everything. National security is a double-edged sword. I keep thinking about the Base Commander portrayed by Jack Nicholas in "A Few Good Men". It was a sobering character, but a very acurate character. The world is a very ugly and troubling place. This all sounds so cliche', but soon you will see things that you will niether be allowed to or want to talk about. But, you will also develop a new and deep respect for America in the process. I salute you for making your choice to serve this nation and wish you "fair winds and following seas".

Actually, I will be confined to prison in Colorado Springs for 4 years. Err, I meant the Air Force Academy.
