Bottom Line: If Tubby brings home some Final Four appearances he will be the King of the State of Kentucky, like Ree Pee once was..

U of L football is still far superior to the Cats' football program now no matter which conference each school plays in. Probation killed us...Remember just a few years ago when UL opened up Papa Johns...UK went in their and basicly shoved a chevy up....I mean we kicked thie butts 68-34. We are 2-2 at their place. Should be 3-1 but Mumme blew that game by putting Sanders in to kick the winning FG.

The reason I said Louisvile would catch us is I remember when they were just another basketball team. I used to watch and root for them just like I did UK maybe not as much so when Hickman and Dromo was cocah. Then along comes the Crumb who was a good coach but seemed to want to use UK as a stepping stone for UL. Today I am for whoever is playing UL. Now I am not for sure they haven't already caught up with us not in wins and etc but as for as being on the national level, and I am pretty sure Pitino will do even better with them in the future than in the past, but I sure hope not.

The Tubster is one of the best in the business and good things will eventually come his way. For some reason folks want to put a timetable on things or kick him out.
Winning SEC league and tourney championships are nothing to sneeze about but a lot of fans take them for granted. It took Boeheim three shots in 17 years to win the big one.
There have been 20 and 18 year droughts between championships at UK. I feel it will happen for Tubby in time (where is that credit card company?). ;D

katman, what does Tubby have to prove with the NCAA tourney? Look at where he ranks among the active coaches in turns of NCAA winning percentage. Where would you put Gary Williams, another great coach? He didn't even make the tourney last year. Is he all of a sudden a terrible coach.... how do you get worse with age? Tubby must do more in future NCAA tourneys to be considered great by UK standards. Yep, Tubby is a "Good" coach. But to be great he must deliver some Final Fours to UK. Tubby is 53 years old and hasnt ever recruited and coached a team to a Final 4. He has come "Very close" He has 1998 where he played a major role in one. But to be great "Fair or not" he must silence his critics.....you know, the ones that say what I just said. In short, Tubby must deliver the Sports Holy Grail back to Lexington and do so without our former coach's hands on it, or else Tubby will not surpass Joe Hall in banners (FF or more) I disagree with Tubby having to silence his critics. Most people tend to think Tubby is a great coach, so he doesn't have anything to prove to anybody. And, Pitino better be thanking his lucky stars that Tubby was on his first two Kentucky staffs. Without Tubby helping to get this thing in the right direction in 1990 and 1991, Pitino may not have a national title either. So, Pitino is thanking Tubby, just as Tubby is thanking Pitino.

Tubby seems to be viewed as a great coach by the national media and his peers. At the end of the day that's all that matters, because we're (the fans are) gonna be cheering on UK basketball whether Tubby is great or not.
As Rick Majerus stated on ESPN, the mark of a great coach is one that can dominate his conference. Nobody has dominated their conference like Tubby Smith as Andy Katz wrote a few months ago. Tubby was showing signs of having UGA as a contender also.

Honestly, I want Tubby to be a great coach, the national media loves the fact that we are on a record Final 4 drought (tied). Couple that with the way they beat us up with the hatred Chapman spewed out in public with his rant, the ESPNs of the world LOVE our drought and our former players. This is getting out of hand.. GREAT isnt getting a record drought. Great is hopefully on the way. Very good has been experienced, I am "very gooded" to death. Its time for the rubber to meet the road and for us to make the national spotlight on the final weeend of the season. Excuses are a sign of weakness so lets dont show any more weakness.

What are the excuses that people are showing? I only speak with facts. Tell me where anything I have said hasn't been fact.
Calhoun went thru a major drought for his first final four. Roy Williams went from 1993 to 2002 between final fours. Jim Boheims makes one final four every decade that's it. Not everybody is gonna be in a final four every year like Tom Izzo. It's insane to think the difference between Tubby being good and great is one missed FT in a double OT game, according to your logic katman.

I have made the same arguments you have made my man....You may know I am one of Tubbys biggest supporters, but us supporters must get some ammo to fight the Naysayers with and SOON. Fight the good fight my friend. I havent turned, I just know what has to happen to make the GREAT stick in front of any coaches name.

How long will the fans give Tubby to get back to a final 4 before they really become irate?

well, assuming Morris is smart and returns for next season...there will be a lot of very vocal and displeased fans if UK does not AT LEAST make the final four next season...
but hey...getting to the final four and/or winning it all takes a lot of talent and good coaching...and a bit of luck too...winning 6 straight is tough...and usually only the first one or two games are against teams you really should beat handily if you are a one or two seed...after that, you are looking at all very good teams who are quite capable of knocking you out on a given night...
but anyhow...people are getitng antsy about it...no doubt...

One of the problems I see with Tubby's coaching is in the 3 pt. shooting. I think his style of play would have worked much better before the 3pt. shot. I know that you can't live by the 3. but you have to be able to shoot a pretty good perchantage and also defend it. It just seems to me like we just don't have good enough shooters to play with some of the better teams. It just seems like we should spend a little more time on the offense. I see to much standing around on offense. Some of the other teams I watch the players are always moving.

FT shooting helps...
and I kinda agree with banjo about three point shooting...
but really this comes down to just plain shooting in general...
it helps to have good shooters...period...
after all, the name of the game is putting the ball through the hoop...
I love Tubby's defense...and if we could have that and also have great shooting too...I mean, why not have the best of both worlds like we did in 1996 for example?
