Yada, yada, yada.!!! Tubby is great , he has the crowd behind him. This is the same crap we have heard for the past three years. Wait until he gets his 10th loss again and see what the names coming out of the crowd will be.

I agree, djb. The ranks of the unhappy dwindles as the season approaches only to swell again at season's end. Maybe the promise will be realized this year, but I don't think either the talent or coaching is top 5 material.

I tell you what, The Millennium Force rollercoaster is the biggest in the world, but I really think the rollercoaster with Tubby is bigger than that. When Parker was dismissed I saw doom and gloom and everybody everywhere just doggin' the guy. And then here comes MM and everyone reveres him. Makes me wonder what most fans really think of him. We get a majority of members on all messages boards dislike him, but of course on the internet are just the most vocal fans that represent about 5% of overall fans. Look around 2 months ago you find nothing about Tubby that is good. Now you look around and nearly all is positive. It's been like this forever. I really wish it was just one way or the other. I want to rule or I want to suck. no medium please. The weirdest thing is that I am more skeptical of this team than any other, yet I am more confident that this team is going to win more than any other. Though I fear another season of trouble, I can't help but look at the way our players present themselves. Their attitudes are eerily different than I've seen in a long time. So much so that it is the reason I feel a good, winning, season is in store. I can say though in reference to Tubby...I've cooled on him a little bit, but guy, you better get 12 losses or you get 2 losses because at the end of the season I want to know you either should be the coach or you shouldn't. HAte that I like thousands of other fans have to change my mind every 2.3 seconds

Well I CAN say that I was more than shocked to hear people chant his name. People are not oblivious to all the papers criticizing him and yet, they still have faith in him. But yes I do agree that a majority of people have changed their mind on Tubby. But that doesn't mean this change last forever. As soon as something goes wrong, nearlly half if not most will go back to Pre MM thinking. I think it really is that way for most fans. You love the coach when things go right and you hate the coach when things go wrong. It just gets old when this trend continues over and over.

The majority of people have changed their mind about Tubby? ;D I don't know of anyone who has changed their mind about Tubby. MM is not an indicator of love for the coach. I would suggest you take a look see at other boards and see how many people have changed their mind about Tubby. He is on a short rope and if this season looks anything like the past three, the few that still cheer for him now will want his head.

If you despised Bush and were a huge Gore fan, would you hail Bush when he came here? Probably not, only crazed Bush fans are going to chant his name. Not saying Tubby has fans that just love him, but to hail him like that shows that a majority of the public doesn't view him as bad as we read about in articles. I think you are not understanding what I am saying at all, but that's probably because what I say is not clear. If it's any clearer I am saying that at times people want Tubby to be fired ASAP, but then a little time goes by and that urge to get rid of him disapates and he's not necessarily "loved," but is not AS hated. That is until something else happens to causes us to want him gone ASAP. Is that a little clearer. Spam, I think you would know what I mean.

I've been called out! ;D I'll chime in here and give my :twocents: I'm VERY excited about this year, just like any other. MM has ended and I just purchased tickets to the Blue-White game. I plan to attend every single game possible (might need some help from some students though ) It's basketball season....FINALLY and I plan to enjoy it to the fullest. Sound familiar? So just who goes to Midnight Madness anyway? People with nothing better to do? Tubby fans? Casual fans? Who? I'll tell ya who. Those that are lucky enough to get tickets are UK's MANIAC'S (no pun intended) The Midnight Maniac's! People soooo excited about the UK squad. Cheering on our soldiers proclaiming "I BELIEVE IN ALL THE HYPE SURROUNDING KENTUCKY BASKETBALL. IT'S FOR REAL AND IT'S TIME TO PUT THE PAST BEHIND US AND START WHOOPIN' SOME butt!!!!" Who is leading our soldiers into battle? Orlando 'Tubby' Smith Our General. Our Task Master. Tubby Smith leads the team that we love onto the court of battle and it's time to proclaim it in it's highest. Sound crazy? Not to me. We're mistakes made? Of course. Have we been "all we could be?" Heck no. Are changes being made to ascertain the 'turmoil' we experienced last year will not arise during the 2002-2003 season? Hell yes!!!Many fans LOVE our coach and their isn't anything wrong with that. I'm sure the thinking is from many different perspectives and most of which aren't just following blindly. I support Coach Smith with all my might because he is the leader of our precious Wildcats and I will continue to do so as long as he holds the reigns, but something must be done THIS YEAR for Tubby to maintain job security IMO. For me, Sweet 16's isn't bad at all. Do I want more? Hell yes!!! We all do and I think Tubby does as well. I was VERY upset when I first learned of Jason Parkers dismissal and I was to the point where I almost wanted Tubby gone because it seemed like nothing was changing. I've sinced cooled down a bit and now see that things are in place for change. I see some team unity. I see many kids labeled 'troublemakers' off the roster. etc etc etc. This could be Tubby's best year since the 98 championship and I think many fans will agree. The only question is, "Will we do it?" I hope some of that made some sense because I've been awake for nearly 36 hours now and the words are running together. ;D

And there it is. Glad you could say what I tried because how you are as a fan is pretty much how a lot of people are. You're still unique, though! ;D

Spam, that was the best post I've read in quite some time! All day I have been attempting to draft some kind of response that would clarify what TG was saying earlier, but every time I would read my words, it seemed to confuse the issue further! Maybe you should sleep less more often (how's that for a odd twist on words? )! And I, too, agree that this is Tubby's "put up or shut up" year. I see a lot of things that have gotten me excited again after all the turmoil/departures/problems..... In the meantime......GO BIG BLUE!!!!!

Michele, you just confused me with that sleep less more often, and I've only been up for 16 hours. Well spoken by the 3 of you.

I think Tubby will be here for many more years. As I've stated before I have a good feeling about this team. Was real happy when he was given the job of UK coach, then after last year I was somewhat pissed because we had talent to do so much more. But as time went by I realized that NOBODY is perfect and to expect perfection (or close to it) is stupidity on my part. The man admitted he made mistakes in recruiting some of the players, taking the Olympic job, and a few other things. Takes a big man to do that publicly, specially knowing the ridicule he would take from the Tubby haters out here. But he stood up and said it anyway because it was true. As Spam said he made moves to right the ship and brought in a good group of recruits. The senior leadership will be better this year as Bogans will get in players faces if they screw up. Nothing against Prince and Blevins but where were they when the team went to H#LL last year. And the Pelphrey shot is lame, he could do a lot worse than Tubby did with last years team or the one before that. Actually I say he has had 1 bad year of coaching and that was last years and still got that team playing thier hearts out in the NCAA tourney and give the champs the best game they had in it. Some bad games YES bad years not IMO. The 10 losses don't bother me as much as most because we play such a hard schedule and everyone is pointing towards us to make thier years that it's going to happen, but until last year I never saw the team quit putting forth everything they had. And to cheer for the team and not the coach is counter productive, for one to do good without the other is not possible. Just a fact. GO BIG BLUE #8 IN 2002

Hope has sprung annually since 99, only to be dashed at season's end. Discipline is bad, offense has stunk, recruiting this year won't even be top 20 with Alleyne, Perry, and Thomas. We are no longer a top 10 program on the floor much less the best in the country.
I cannot get enthused about Tubby Smith's job performance nor his promise of change. I even forgot when midnight madness was this year and I tape it every year. Either get things right, TLT, or move on.
Can anybody here say the UK program is now at or even approaches the level it was when TLT was handed the reins?
