If not, why is it we have done no better since then? 1 FF in 13 years is certainly not a pattern. Bad luck may be involved here. Posted kj!!!!! What UK team have you been following Or did you "assume" one would "know" you were bringing Tulsa and UGA into the picture What on Earth does that have to do with Coach Smith's tenure at Kentucky!!!! I am sure you would not like RP's yrs at Boston and L-ville attached to his UK record?? Yep - "hate is a strong word" - considering your posts - past and present about the Smith's - what other word would be appropriate When a Coach's wife and family are brought into the picture on a consistent basis it would be hard to conclude any other "feeling." But when one makes statements - such as- "I take it that this means you are a Tubby fan or a complete moron" to one's fellow Maniacs - I would think any feeling would be possible Just an observation!! ;D

It's getting to the point that I am not enjoying this board as much just because of some poster's agenda against Tubby. Now I am not a total, blind Tubby defender in many areas such as substitutions, playing players that I don't understand, some of the offensive flow, etc. However, overall, Tubby is doing a good job coaching, recruiting and running a clean program while hopefully learning to be less conservative in the Big Tourney. Let's talk basketball and our Great Kentucky Program and not let everything lead to a Tubby discussion!! - it's not fair to Tubby, the reputation of our fans who many outside the Kentucky Community think are nuts for downgrading a leader and a quality coach like Tubby and it also dilutes some good discussion points beyond Tubby.

I take it that this means you are a Tubby fan or a complete moron. Yes, I am a Tubby fan, but more than that I am a UK fan. I believe Tubby is doing a good job at UK. I also believe that Rick Pitino did a good job at UK.
I don't believe in name calling because I think it to be childish, but I do think that there are those that will never be satisfied no matter who the coach is, or what his record. Some people are just miserable, so they find no good in anything or anyone, and can only feel good if they are bringing the rest of the world down to their level.
That is a sad existence when all you can do is concentrate on the negative. We have some like that on this board.
Nothing wrong with pointing out ones opinion, but surely Tubby has done some good at UK, and deserves a few at a boys as well.

Never ever said he was a bad coach or person, just not the great coach that some on here seem to think he is.
SK
Don't know where you get this family crap at. Saul's playing abilities were discussed-again nowhere have I said he was a lazy no good drug addict. Nor has Donna's character been slurred. Her over involvement with the basketball program has been a sorepoint with me but nowhere have I said she was a no good useless person.
Don't really care what you think of my views, but get your facts straight.

It's getting to the point that I am not enjoying this board as much just because of some poster's agenda against Tubby. golf, you said it all with that post. If I wanted to here people bash Tubby, I would go to a Florida Gator board... but wait a second, even they know a good coach when they see one. All this anti-Tubby crap is just that---crap!! This is just like high school all over again, except on a message board, and I'm proud to say I've passed high school.SK, I'm glad you're here speaking the truth of the matter on this subject. Your post are always good. You're right, as much as I love Tubby, I'd love to see him go to Duke where he would be better appreciated. Afterall, if Tubby leaves we could always get Dave Bliss or Jim Harrick, guys without character.

Even though I am a full out Kentucky Fan, I do pull for quality, class coaches like Izzo, Sendeck, Odum, etc. And, by the way, I'd pull for Tubby at Duke!!

Been away for a few days. Boy has this subject been intertaining. kj, don't think Tubby will get to 2 more final fours. Like you said, only a sweetsixteen average at UK. He is on course with his overall basketball average. He does have a great recruiting class coming in, but will be very inexperienced. He will have the horses on the court and on the bench. Because of being so conservative, especially at NCAA crunch time, don't think he will use the horses on the bench to their fullest.
I am happy to see UK win in the SEC as it has, but don't think it proves to much about Tubby's coaching abilities because of the SEC's poor showing in the NCAAs and Tubby's average of sweetsixteens in the NCAAs. I think Tubby has more sense than to go to the pros. I also think Coach K would be a fool to go to the pros. Both coaches are in a great position. Tubby makes 2.4M a year. He can buy his parents a lot of Jim Walter homes with that kind of money. So money shouldn't be an issue with him. He has a rock solid contract, stability and a place at UK for as long as he wants it. Still, I say he will not get us another national championship and we may not make it to another final four. I think the upcoming team has the talent, but either Tubby will screw it up or some of the players will not stay at UK long enough for it to happen.

And, by the way, I'd pull for Tubby at Duke!! Hate to say golfnsr, but here is where we would have to part company. No way I will ever pull for Duke no matter who their coach is! Besides, If K goes pro the P will go to Duke IMO.

"Don't really care what you think of my views, but get your facts straight. " Posted kj "When a Coach's wife and family are brought into the picture on a consistent basis it would be hard to conclude any other "feeling." kj this is what I posted. You have mentioned Donna Smith as part of the reason Bradley and Hogan left. And you gave posted about Saul for several years including this year. You have also posted about Brian Smith. That is what I am posting about!!!! So my facts are not just "pulled from thin air." I would never "pull" for dUKe - I would hope Coach Smith would be successful!! I have been a UK fan for47 yrs - and - I am not ever going to change that!!!! "I think the upcoming team has the talent, but either Tubby will screw it up or some of the players will not stay at UK long enough for it to happen. " Statement from ukfan!!!! Posted like a "true blue UK Fan!!!!! If I felt at all in this manner - I don't think I could cheer for UK!!!!!! If I had that "little faith" - why on Earth would one go through the misery And - kj I have never "called you out, called anyone a moron, or been disrespectful - no - I don't "agree" with all you posts - I don't agree with "anyone" 100% However - I don't think that should stop one from at least being "civil." These discussions always lead the same direction (about Coach Smith) - NOWHERE!!

Seattlekat, I am going on Tubby's past performances as a coach in the big games. I have never seen a team of Tubby's players come back like the 98 team did against Duke. I believe they were about 18 down when they made the famous run. They did it with the way they were taught by Pitino, not Tubby. They did it with the 3 pointer and being mental tough. I have never seen a team of Tubby's show the degree of mental toughness that that team had. I will admit that Tubby is one of the top coaches in the SEC (being up there with Stansbury and Odom), but until he does better than an "average coach" in the NCAAs, I wouldn't rate him up there with Calhoun or Coach K. Of course, I think on the average Coach K has had the best players, just like Dean Smith use to have, but don't think he can be classified as a another dominator like John Wooten was there for 9 or 10 years. If the Duke fans want Tubby, they can have him. As you pro Tubby fans have said many times before, UK makes the coach instead of the coach making UK. So we could get another (as long as it isn't Eddie Sutton) to take his place and we would still be king of the SEC.
