Am I supposed to go somewhere and cry now? I've never tried to impress you with anything that I've said, because that's quite impossible. LOL

I have mixed feelings about Tubby's recruiting...
I felt that we suffered for a few years with an inability to land a top notch PG when Saul was here...probably because other schools used that against us in recruiting...you know...tell potential recruits, "Do you really want to go to UK and have to compete against the coach's son for playing time?"
Tubby has had his lean years recruiting to be sure...his best year obviously was landing Rondo and Crawford and Morris and Bradley...
many have questioned his offering of Porter...you do have to wonder about it...Brandon Stockton never really turned into anything...
but heck, even the 'great' Ree Pee had his bad moments recognizing talent...remember Carlos Toomer? And offering JP Blevins a UK scholly when he was in like the 8th grade or something because he 'impressed' Pitino at his youth basketball camp? gimme a break! Tubby honored that offer to JP and JP and Saul were OK players, but not the caliber of guards that you win NCAA championships with...
Tubby does pretty well all-around I would say, but I am really withholding judgment until I see who he lands out of this 2006 class...we were supposed to really do well and that remains to be seen...

Here's one thing I'd like to add just for the sake of discussion.
1. Look at each year individually. 2. Assess whether you believe each year was good, bad, etc 3. Look at the entire coaching staff for said years. 4. See if you notice any patterns
I think a lot can be said for the addition of Rigot and the maturation of Reggie.

3. Look at the entire coaching staff for said years. Shawn Finney and George Felton did the recruiting the first 2 or 3 seasons, and we picked up some great players in Prince, Bogans, Fitch, Daniels, Hawkins, and Estill. However, there was a bit of a "down period" between when Finney left for Tulane and Felton retired and when Rigot came. kbit was reporting recently that Tubby actually might not be too happy with Rigot's effort. Rigot apparently was supposed to help Hanson and teach him about recruiting. But, there could be a rift between Rigot and Tubby. Rigot might not like the "Hollywood" feel of Kentucky either. If Rigot finds another job, Finney could be on his way back??

Sounds like just enough confusion to cover Tubby for some below standard recruiting. No matter who Tubby gets into his supporting cast, he is the one making $2 million and is ultimately responsible for recruiting. It really shouldn't be too hard to have THE KENTUCKY BASKETBALL PROGRAM to promote and sign legitimate top recruits.

Tubby's recruiting deserves a B-. He recruited some pretty decent recruits that just didn't work out. These were highly touted recruits at that like Caaruth, and Stone. Not bad with Bogans and Prince either IMO. Have there been some dissapointments? Sure, but I still think that overall Tubby has gone after, and landed some highly rated players and some have just not worked out for some reason.
If Tubby lands another solid class this year, and next then I'm bumping him up to an A.

I read somewhere that Tubby has recruited more McD AA than Pitino did the same 8 year period at UK. Some of Tubby's most accomplished players weren't even McD AA either: Fitch, Daniels, Hawkins, and Estill.
It's hard to be judgemental about guys who are still in the program. Nobody can forecast the future, so nobody knows how Bobby Perry will turn out.
Personally, Tubby gets an A IMO. Tubby's recruited 5 players that have ended up in the NBA: Jumanine Jones, Tayshaun Prince, Keith Bogans, Erik Daniels, and Gerald Fitch. Tubby has his recruits selected as an All-American three times (twice for Prince and once for Bogans). (Pitino had players selected three times also, BTW). Tubby only gets an 'A', because he can improve a little, but there's not much improving that needs to be done with an 87-15 record in 3 years, which is the same span of time that these recruits have been here that Bailey is questioning, like Stockton.

Spam, always glad to see your post. You seem to be closer to the middle of the road than an extreemist. I don't think that Golf or I can convert KT but maybe we can win you over to our side of thinking. Bailey

It's not about converting somebody over to one's side. It's about standing up for what you believe in, regardless of how many people agree with you. I'll tell you, I'm not alone in my "extreme positive views of Tubby."

"Extreme positive views of Tubby" this is very commendable. Your youthful enthusiasm is very nice to hear and I am sure everyone is very glad you are pulling for our Wildcats. As far as recruiting as this topic, no knock on Tubby here, but good gosh, we must look reality in the eye sometimes without the blue tinted brain cells kicking into overdrive during every thread. Just one year should matter for us right now. That year is this year. First, do we have a prove center entering the season? NOSecond do we have a proven player entering the season at the 4 position. NOThird, do we have a proven player entering the season at the 5 position? NOSounds to me like UK is lucky to be ranked at 14. How does this rate as GREAT things that Tubby has done as far as putting a NC caliber team on the floor. You can run up and down every street in Lexington yelling at the top of your lungs, Tubby is great, Tubby is great, and it does not change the fact that UK will be fielding a team without proven championship players at 3 of 5 positions this year. To a great number of fans, "I'll tell you" they are not alone, LOL, this is not a GREAT thing by UK standards. I am not starting anything with this, just summing up the obvious.
