I'd like to add Tom Crean, Marquette's coach , to the top 5 on our hypothetical list of Tubby replacements.
I love the way his team plays, his enthusiasm, his positive reinforcement with his players, his effective substitution and finally his pedigree being mentored by Tom Izzo.

7, they're good also but I like the link with Izzo that Crean has.
We'll see how his Marquette Team navigates the Big East this year.
Crean is starting pretty good against U Conn.

was he an assistant coach under Izzo Yes - see the following from his Bio. "Prior to earning the head coaching post at Marquette, Crean served as an assistant coach under Tom Izzo for three seasons (1995-96 through 1997-98) at Michigan State University and before the 1998-99 season Crean was named associate head coach of the Spartans. During his four-year stay at Michigan State, Crean helped the Spartans to a record of 88-41 (.682) and four straight post season appearances, including a trip to the Final Four in 1999."

I think our next coach is some relative unknown right now. We probably won't have another coaching change for at least another 8 years (which I'm happy for). Tubby has 6 more years left, and it will become 8 when he gets back to the final four. With that being said, our next hire will be somebody that's probably just getting started right now, and will make a name for themselves over the next several years.
Thad Matta would be my choice, but I don't see that happening. Or Mark Few. I'll go with Billy Gillespie, Mick Cronin, etc. Give Cronin some time at Murray State, and he'll get somewhere even better than that, and he'll pave his way to a place like Kentucky. Much like Tubby did with first Tulsa, then Georgia.

I hate to be so anti-Tubby, but I think the list of coaches I 'd rather have than Tubbster is longer than most. Rick Barnes, yes. Izzo yes, how bout Dean Smith? he's got to be getting tired of the wifey by now.

raineyday, those coaches that you listed probably wont' come tho. It's one thing to come up with a long list of coaches, but it's another to come up with a list of reasonable choices. For instance Tom Izzo isn't a reasonable choice.

You never know who would do anything unless you give it a shot KTB, it is like only asking a girl to the prom who you know will say yes, go for the one you want, they may just say ok!

raineyday, put yourself in Tom Izzo's shoes. He's been to four final fours, and he's already making enough money to feed a third world country. What possibly could UK offer him? Why he'd leave an established program where he is king would be confusing. Kentucky honestly doesn't offer him anything that he doesn't have at Michigan State, and let's not forget he's been there for almost 20 years as an assistant under Heathcoate.

I don't care who we get, something or someone needs to change. This team has enough talent to win some games. Tubby just can't get them to gel. Passing the ball back and forth to each other at the top of the key. What is that? I think it was his new offense he is installing.
