"By the way, hockey substitution stopped come tournament time, but some key guys from the bench didn't 'stop' producing. The 'hockey' substitutions were meant to get everyone experience, and with the team we had last year, I think the general thought was that the second team wasn't much of a let-down from the first. I definately saw the same scoring droughts with both groups." - posted #4 My take on Tubby's "Hockey Shift Change" wholesale substitutions basically eliminated the development of key reserves like Perry, Thomas, Bradley and Crawford. When Tubby did his 4 or 5 player substitution with all cold players, it took quite awhile for them to get their unit's game going and generally they lost most of the momentum that the initial group had built up. You are correct that this sub technique stopped during the tourney when Tubby gets even more conservative and tries not to lose instead of pushing to win. Had the above listed 4 players been mixed with some of the starters during key parts of the games during the season they would have developed more to produce during the tourney. It's sort of ironic that Woo and Shag seemed to develop more and it was probably due to the fact that Morris got in early foul trouble and they both played more and earlier with the starters. - Woo and Shag were more prepared and developed come Tourney time thanks to Morris lazy defense and not Tubby's preparation. #4 or whoever, argue all you wish but Tubby's Dysfunctional Substitution Patterns suck!! BTW, #4, you are completely correct is saying "I definitely saw the same scoring droughts with both groups" and that is what Tubby Ball creates with its inept offense.

No I'm not completely satisfied, but I'm also not convinced that Tubby's style of play doesn't work. I guess we can aggree to disagree, but I think the only positive in throwing up bad shots, and being fine with a lot of 1 on 1 BS is that we will look more appealing to recruits. I really feel as though with equal talent, Tubby can coach with anyone out there. KJ, when a school gets the number one recruiting class in the nation, and its fans are calling them mediocre, you know something is wrong. I know there were some recruiting busts such as Carrier and Stockton, but as a whole our guys are turning out pretty well. Stay away from your parade all-american, mcdonalds all-american mumbo jumbo because I don't care. The bottom line is that we are being put into a great possition to do damage in the tournement, and we have as talented a team as anyone out there next year with the exception of maybe a couple of schools with a lot of upper classmen. Our time will come, and we will not have to change our style of play. 2 of our last 3 recruiting classes will have not been top 25. It will be hard for Tubby to have equal talent with those kind of results. Kind of wonder who you've been watching, I've seen a lot of 1 on 1 play and forced shots with the clock running down playing that great brand of highly intricate motion offense Tubbyball over the years.

2. Kentucky. Wildcats fans who wonder why their team hasn't reached the Final Four since 1998 need only examine recent NBA draft lists. UK hasn't produced a top 15 pick since 1997 and has had only one first-round pick (Tayshaun Prince) in the past five years. The Wildcats were shut out entirely in this year's draft, and they need players at every position. Nashville-area power forward Brandan Wright is the key. www.sportingnews.com/experts/mike-decourcy/20050705.htmlNow that I 100% agree with.. For those that think I HATE Tubby, well that's not completely true.. I hate the fact that he has yet to "consistantly" recruit big time players. With Prince being our only top 15 player under Tubby that is absolutely pathetic, this is UK!! We have not reached the final four since 98 and we won't if Tubby can't recruit at a higher level with the big boys.. Talent wins championships and there is NOTHING Tubby can do to prove this theory wrong. Look at last years Champion (North Carolina), 4 players drafted in the 1st round of the NBA draft. Actually they were all chosen before the 14th pick.. Disagree all you want, but we need studs. Yes a FEW four year players are fine, but too many equals no final four appearances. Take last year for example we almost made the final four, some would say we overachieved? I personally thought this was Tubby's best team at UK since 1999, but this is my opinion. This coming season will be a better team even with the loss of Morris and Buike. We had a solid recruiting class with Rondo and co., so therefore we'll have a bit more success then usual. In conclusion: We need top notch players or else we need to settle for SEC success. If Tubby can't do this at UK then he MUST go bye bye, it's been almost 8 years with no fianl four appearance. I'm sorry, but that's PATHETIC!!! A coach shouldn't have problems recruiting at UK? Blah, blah, blah. Why must you go to every board and say you don't hate Tubby. Nobody ever questioned that, I'm starting to think you actually do, but who's keeping count? Who really cares, honestly. It's not about if you like Tubby or not... if you don't take that up with him.

I would respond to what some of you guys said, but you never responded to the national title and 79% winning percentage, so like I said earlier, I rest my case, and it's still rested.

Alright, I'll go down there and get that made, then I'll set that trophy next to Tubby's national title trophy. How about that.

Alright, I'll go down there and get that made, then I'll set that trophy next to Tubby's national title trophy. How about that. Yeah, put it next to that trophy with the big asterix next to it that denotes the fact that it was pitino's team. Undeniable fact that looms larger every year Tubby fails to get his recruited/coached players to a final four. 14 years of coaching and a title with the man's team. He should send most of that outrageous salary to Rick. Rick made him and before it is all said and done, Rick will break him. You are happy though, uk may be second best in state, but your man Tubby is coaching.

Are you suggesting that UL will win another NC before the Cats?

This is just an opinion like many others here, but no one can deny that uofl has the best coach. Their sports programs are making all the right moves and Pitino has no problem recruiting. They are on a huge uptick and uk is just floating along. If you look at all the intangables, if i were a betting man, i would put my money on louisville before uk. Easy choice.
Making Tubby one of the highest paid coaches in college bball, does not make him one of the best coaches. while all uk fans want to believe they are and have the best of everything in bball, evidence suggests that it is not the case. When the so called best program in bball hasn't been to a final four in 7 years, something is wrong. Our man Tubby has only been to one final four in 14 years of coaching and not with his team, regardless of what some would have you believe. How many more years must be wasted before the change that is coming happens. the string has run out on Tubby. he has proven he can't get the program back to where it was when he took it over.
i have a poster of the front page of the herald-leader the day after the 96 champ. It reads, "BACK ON TOP." we will not see that headline again until changes are made.
Some will call this Tubby bashing, i call it reality.

This is laughable. Simply put... laughable!!!
catcrawler, save your time debating this with xukfan. It's a lost cause, because he says the same thing with every post. For a guy that doesn't like Tubby Smith... Tubby's name appears in his post every single time.
